Just to give you guys a quick update on our efforts to get April 2nd’s UFC Fight Night extended to three hours:

  • Numerous threads have been created on the Underground forum resulting in hundreds of people pledging to send emails.
  • has stickied a thread which has already hit 24 pages long over the past few days. I know we typically hate these guys on principle alone but I’m not about to look a gift horse in the mouth (whatever that means).
  • I have been in touch with Brian Diamond, who’s in charge of making these kinds of decisions. Spike is VERY aware of our campaign to have the show extended to 3 hours and will be making a decision SOON!

So it’s the home stretch, people. If you’ve already emailed Spike, it’s time to send them the email again. If you’ve got more than one email address, send them a letter from each one. I am in the middle of putting together a press release to try and drum up some more support. If you’re a member of MMA forums, cut and paste this into a thread.

The signs are pointing to Spike showing 3 hours. But it’s not a lock yet by any means. Let’s keep the pressure up!

Here’s a cut and paste letter (it’s a boring polite one, you can get witty ones in the original post):

SUBJECT: UFC Fight Night on April 2nd
I’m writing to ask that the UFC Fight Night on April 2nd be given three hours of time instead of two. The card is one of the best UFC cards ever put on Spike, and it deserves a longer timeslot. The entire fight community is looking forward to seeing this event, and I am sure you’ll have a significantly higher number of viewers if you decide to show more of the card.

Thank you for your time

    sent one again…..keep us updated

  • Mike O says:

i dunno, that picture is more of a dog than a jackal.

also, in actual pictures of jackals, they dont have long ass tongues. you are ripping off the lion king jackals.

  • Dukes says:

If it goes 3 hours, do this mean we’ll get to see the Clay Guido fight?

  • Nick Thomas says:

  • Louis says:

The now infamous UFC fight club forum has it stickied with numerous people sending e-mails. I got it stickyed over there!

  • frickshun says:

Am I the only one that thinks a 3 hour broadcast is near impossible considering it’s a lead-in for the show. I doubt they’ll run the card from 7pm to 10pm, it’s probably too early to show violence on TV. And 8-11pm would push TUF an hour later. That show is their bread & butter. Since Liddell & Hughes aren’t the big selling points they were 1-2 yrs ago, they NEED Forrest & Rampage to carry the torch. I wish they would just do the UFN on a Saturday night. Then we would get our 3 hrs. **And YES, I did email Spike from several different accounts.**

  • Louis: good stuff, thanks a bunch!
frickshun: it’s probably only the 7-8 slot that’s making it tricky to do this. They normally show UFC Unleashed at that time before a Fight night though, so it’s not too much of a stretch. The way demand is looking, they’re leaning to 3 hours :-)

  • Fightlinker Jackal says:

They show TUF marathons at the end of each season, so I don’t see how 7-8 might be “too early to show violence”. I hope this works, I highly doubt they’ve had such a birage of emails before.

  • miken says:

“I’m not about to look a gift horse in the mouth (whatever that means).”
If someone gives you a horse as a gift, it would be rude to check its teeth to see how healthy it is in front of the person who gave it to you.. So don’t look a gift horse in the mouth.

  • but horses aren’t cheap. If it’s a dud then I’m basically fucked :-/

  • Omomatta says:

I’ve sent 4 from different accounts. I hope this crap works.

  • fightfan says:

    I hope it works…….

But I see the UFC using this event to get some money flowing back into UFConDEMAND. The past 2 UFC events has aired most of the fights on the PPV, so NO MORE money to make off people.

Therefore, this would be a great event for them to be GREEDY. They know that people want to see many of the Prelim fights. So, they say WHY NOT TAKE ADAVNTAGE of our loyoal customers. I’ll bet they are telling SPIKE it’s a NO-GO for a 3 hour show. Why make us jump through hoops and get them for FREE anyhow?? Which most of will do

  • kentyman says:

What’s wrong with Edith’s teeth? Are they fake too?

    Sent, again.

  • winklepicker says:

Also the horse would bite you. And that shit hurts.

  • kentyman says:

    The hand that feeds?!

  • Dumbout! says:

Emailed from every addy I have 😉 Good on ya FL!

  • Heydre says:

    Word is born…again

  • JAMES says:

i want 2 c 3 hours. come on we have 2 c it on spike with commercials & stuff u can atleast make it longer.
and i don’t understand y hammil is still on the maincard. i bet it’s because tito trains in colorado. who cares hammil is a boring fighter he can box alittle but he tires easy and then it a takedown and lay down. he does nothing with the takedown.

  • KnuklHed says:

When you’re shopping your brand to “blue chip” sponsors, exposure is what you want. The more you can say look at how many people can see your logo, from every possible angle, for this amount of time, and free. The more likely you are to get the big money. The money from UFC On Demand is piddly shit in comparison. Getting big name sponsors and/or carrying a strong rating for a 3 hour time slot also lends the UFC credibility and stability in the eyes of the mainstream. So 3 hours is good for the UFC, and Dana is too smart not to see it.

My question is if Spike does this, will they get a large enough ratings spike in that timeslot to make it worthwhile for them to do it everytime? Cause I’d prefer watching even a weak undercard to an Unleashed replay.
