With food shortages breaking out in cities across Japan and the nuclear power plant situation getting worse with every hour, it’s becoming very apparent why Yoshihiro Akiyama ended up pulling out of his fight with Nate Marquardt while his country is in peril. But as it stands now, Tatsuya Kawajiri is still going to try and train through everything for his title fight against Gilbert Melendez:
On Saturday MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) reported that fellow lightweights K.J. Noons and Jorge Masvidal were told to remain on standby in case their Japanese counterparts were unable to make it to the U.S.
However, sources close to the organization told MMAjunkie.com the past 24 hours have brought word that Melendez vs. Kawajiri should remain part of the April 9 card.
Ironically, it’s another fighter who might be pulling out. Paul Daley, ever the careful political maneuverer, had a little freakout on the Underground Forums upon hearing about the Strikeforce / UFC sale:
Business as usual, what if i dont wanna fight for DANA WHITE/ZUFFA?……Dana white bans me for life from the UFC, Then buys STRIKEFORCE, and thinks im still gonna be EASY and fight on one of the most anticipated fights of the year (vs (Nick) Diaz)? Which will no doubt make ZUFFA/Dana White money.
Not sure what I’m gonna do right now, honestly, fight for the Strikeforce and be Strikeforce champ, put money in Zuffa/Dana White’s pockets? Or fight here, in the UK for BAMMA, who appreciate my brand, and have my loyal fans, family and media support me. For real. I have a great deal at BAMMA and make just as much money, believe it or not, as I do in the USA.
Paul has a bit of a history of shooting himself in the foot, from the infamous Koscheck sucker punch to a sudden fake retirement halfway through his EliteXC contract. Now he’s talking about backing out of a title shot because the guys who rightfully fired him for being a cunty sportsman might make a few bucks off his participation. Why doesn’t Daley just hack his hands off with a machete while screaming “Fuck you, Zuffa! Fuck you!” I think that’d work out for him about as well as this current plan.
