K-1 Fun

It’s been a busy time for K1, as they just had their World Grand Prix and World MAX Final 16 events over the past week. MAX stands for Middleweight Artistic Xtreme, which basically means it’s a bunch of prettyboys going at it. It’s actually kinda surreal to hear all the women in the stands scream and squeal every time their fighters get tagged. well, it’s surreal for the first 5 minutes. Then for the rest of the 3 hour event it’s just goddamn annoying.

Anyways, if you missed any of the action, JapanMMA has some videos of the action for you:

  • Musashi vs. Junichi Sawayashiki
  • Badr Hari vs. Ray Sefo
  • Glaube Feitosa vs. Alex Roberts
  • Mike Zambidis vs. Andy Souwer
  • Yoshihiro Sato vs. Murat Direcki
  • Semmy Schilt vs. Mark Hunt
  • Atom says:

Any word on whether or not Hunt was injured? Because if that oversized kiwi lost because he got the wind knocked out of him, that would seem a bit anti-climactic.

  • j says:

Mark Hunt looks like a hobbit in K-1. I think he’s way overpowered in K-1 and needs to return to MMA where his striking is top tier.

  • DannyP72 says:

I think anyone would of been ‘koed’ if they had a 300 pound dude spinning back kick them in the liver

  • DannyP72 says:

Also watch the Feitosa fight if you wanna see someone get head kicked into next week

  • Atom says:

“I felt like I’d been kicked by a horse,” Hunt said later. “I only started getting my air back when I heard the ring announcer call the number ‘eight’.”

Just makes it sound like he had the wind knocked out of him and nothing else. I’m not trying to knock Hunt, I’m sure it hurt, just seems like a K-1 fighter would have had that happen to him before, and barring anything broken (or Kalib Starnes style “separated”) he might have been able to continue. Up until that point, it didn’t seem like he took any shots hard enough to penetrate his well documented concrete cranium.

  • The Gaijin says:

Ummm…you ever taken a body/liver shot or in the least seen someone land one in boxing etc.?

Doesn’t matter how “in-shape” you are or how concrete your head is, there’s nothing you can do.

  • I’ve taken one and it was hell. Right in the solar plexus. I can’t imagine how out of it you must feel to have a gigantic elite kickboxer spinning heel kick you right on the button.

Disappointing night for me as I hate seeing Schilt winning, and I’m a big fan of Mark Hunt and Ray Sefo. Sefo’s brain seems to be writing cheques his body can’t cash.

  • The Gaijin says:

Sefo is just a shell of his former self at this point unfortunately. :(

He absorb the punishment he used to and walk ahead to drop a KO bomb. Like there’s no way we see him being able to do what he did in his legendary fight with Hunt a few years back (’01?). His body looks terrible too – age is a bitch.
