Judo Olympian talks Ronda Rousey

We already mentioned Kayla Harrison winning a gold medal in judo but she wasn’t the only Americal to hit the podium in that sport. Marti Malloy won a bronze in the 57 kilo division as well, and she was on MMA Weekly radio this week to discuss Ronda Rousey:

“Everyone knew who Ronda was in the judo world, like across the whole globe; she was a bad ass. She was beating people up everywhere she went. So when she went over to the MMA world, I gave a little ‘duh,’ she’s been taking judo girl’s arms off for years, of course this is going to work in MMA,” Malloy said in an interview with MMAWeekly Radio.

“Ronda and I fought I can’t even tell you how many times growing up and I want to say we were nemeses because I never beat her. I was like never able to beat her as a teenager and that was my goal, who I trained to beat. So now seeing her on the top, it doesn’t surprise me at all because Ronda has this fighting spirit, and nobody has been able to even take her out of the first round, so they haven’t even seen the fighting spirit Ronda has,” Malloy stated.

“She will fight to the death to win and people haven’t seen that yet except in the judo world. We all get excited to watch her matches, but we know better than to think she’s going to have any trouble.”

Whenever anyone questions the cardio or toughness of Rousey, I wonder why they discount her extensive judo competition experience. She was facing big fat judo bitches, fighting several times a day in tournaments on a regular basis. Several times she competed injured. There’s no question in my mind that she’s one tough DOB. Unfortunately for all the women at 135 pounds, there’s several more layers of toughness to Rousey beyond what we’ve seen so far.

Where exactly is the “Judo World”?

  • kvelertak says:

I bet that Blonde chick that got raped would beat Ronda’s ass in Judo.

  • Doogie Howser, M.D. says:

    DOB – Daniel O’Brien?

  • frickshun says:

    Daughter of a BADASS.

  • Letibleu says:

Aaaand I am officially Ronda overexposed and am tired of reading about one trick pony. Its not that she is that good, its the competition that sucks,. Let’s move on and talk about more interesting shit.

  • Márcio says:

    ^^^^ Unfortunately this.

And I’m a huge suporter of wmma but come on it’s a freakin arm bar these girls have months practice to defend it and last less than a minute? They are not that good. Dana’s right, wmma has a long way to go.

  • theinsaneoneJustinMcCully says:

It will be tough for Honda to stay sharp without competition.

  • Letibleu says:

to rectify my point, she is great for WMMA. I am 100% sure Ronda will be responsible for the first female one off fight in the UFC. This will cause many many more chicks to get into MMA and we will see the fruits of that around 2020.

  • Who questions Ronda’s cardio or toughness? People question her striking skills and chin. Men’s MMA has seen plenty of grappling phenoms who couldn’t master striking succeed against mediocre talent and then stall at the highest levels (Jake Shields, Demian Maia, Jon Fitch) WMMA is fifteen years behind the men’s and only Cyborg represents a legitimate elite challenge, at least she was while on roids.

HyOn is single-handedly responsible for my current distaste for HoNda.

    Congrats HyOn Fightlinker!

  • DJ ThunderElbows says:

Yeah, too much Rousey coverage, and I’m clearly her number two fan after Ryan. Let me know when she has a fight booked so I can get amped again.
