Judo conquers Sumo

Meet Pavel Bojar, better known by his sumo name of Takanoyama Shuntaro. Pavel is another judoka who’s using skills from that martial art to clean up in another. The evolution of Sumo competition led to larger and larger contestants until only the biggest of the big stand a chance against one another. The 220 pound Bojar turned this on it’s head by using judo trips and throws to send them fatties flying. He’s been having success since 2001 and last year made it into the top Sumo division in Japan. Just goes to show you how different martial arts still have a lot to learn from one another.

  • DJ ThunderElbows says:

    So fucking dope. MOAR.

  • Garp says:

Is there nothing sacred? Less judo. More fat. And organized crime.

  • voice of reason says:

    I can already see it….
    more judokas come to sumo
    judokas start learning sumo
    sumo wrestlers start learning judo
judokas fatten up to be competitive
sumos slim down a little to be more technical
and a new sport emerges…the same way mma did

it’s the new beginning of fmma = fat mixed martial arts

  • Reverend Clint says:

    JJudo Jumbo Judo

  • Letibleu says:

its not sumo, its not judo its sumdo

  • Blackula Jonez says:

This martial arts miscegenation is blasphemous.

But yeah, who would of thought a more compact, faster and technical sumo-judoka could trip, flip and dump bigger slower guys all over the place?
