Jon Jones doesn’t believe in “eras.”

Sounds like someone is very much aware of the hooting and pointing that occurred on the interwebs after Shogun unceremoniously ended the “Machida Era.” Anik wasn’t the only one to drop the “era bomb” last night, as Mike Goldberg also saw fit to proclaim the start of the “Jones Era” at the end of the UFC telecast. While I’m in agreement with Jones that proclaiming an era in MMA is  bullshit, he did look like he was on a different level than pretty much everyone else in the sport last night…aside from this one other guy

  • Jim Harbaugh Scramble says:

His era will have at least one title defense. There is no way in fucking hell that Suga Rashad is beating him.

  • The Chumpion says:

I’m sorry but Tony Fryklund and Stephan Bonnar can not keep up with today’s generation of cans. Those Midwest McDojo’s have perfected with factory precision, the shaping of white, lower-middle class, suburban ennui, into the faceless punching bags that we enjoy watching our top tier fighters, coming off losses, to wail on. It now takes YEARS of displaying blue-belt jiu-jitsu and boxercise techniques in regional circuits, before being called up to embarrass themselves to an international paying public.

And another thing, I’m sick and tired of all of this nostalgia for the Pride/Pre-Zuffa era jobbers; they just do not stack up. You’re telling me that Emmanuel Yarborough or even a Hiromitsu Kanehara can get smashed as spectacularly as a Bendy Casimir, or a Kyle Bradley? We don’t even have to go to the contemporary scene; I’ll watch a Travis Fulton or a Ruben Villareal fight all day everyday.

i’m not sure what that has to do with this video but still…right on.

  • frickshun says:

    ^^That sums it up perfectly.

  • Joon4s says:

    Griffin era: 0 title defenses
    Evans era: 0 title defenses
    Machida era: 1 title defense
    Shogun era: 0 title defenses

Those are some really short eras if you ask me.

  • Reverend Clint says:

jonny doesnt believe in epochs either since nothing excisted before Jones

  • Letibleu says:

Here is the history of the LHW belt in a nutshell:

Frank Shamrock 4 defenses and then a retirement

Tito Ortiz 5 defenses and then lost it to Randy Couture (Randy and Chuck had fought for an interim in the mean time because Tito was being a bitch)

Randy Couture Won an interim against Chuck then defeated Tito but lost it right away to Vitor

Vitor Belfort Lost it right back to Randy Couture

Randy Couture Lost it right back to Chuck Liddell

Chuck Liddell Defended 5 times and lost it to arch nemesis Quinton (He fought a few non title fights too during his reign)

Quinton Jackson  Defended once and lost it to Forrest

Forrest Griffin Lost it right away to Rashad

Rashad Evans Lost it right awat to Machida

Lyoto Machida Defended once but lost it after in a rematch against the same fighter Shogun

Mauricio Rua Lost it right away to Jesus

Jon Jones 14 defenses, mostly because the contenders forfeit during the applying of vasoline by the referee. He retired with the belt at the age of 24.

  • glassjawsh says:

chuck liddell never fought in a non-title fight while he was champ
and rashad will beat jon jones

  • Letibleu says:

“interim LHW title” then Tito refused to fight. He was it during that time.

  • glassjawsh says:

chuck was never interim champ either

  • iamphoenix says:
