We all got a good laugh out of Jared Shaw screaming his head off as Kimbo Slice got KO’d by Seth Petruzelli. But we didn’t talk too much about the more serious implications behind that … you know … the promoter clearly favoring one fighter over another and / or the promoter trying to influence the referee during a fight. Personally I don’t think of Jared Shaw as a ‘real’ promoter so it doesn’t bother me too much. But for those of you who did care, he has apologized:
“I watched the tape back today,” Shaw told MMA Rated. “My reactions at ringside… were inappropriate and inexcusable.”
“I apologize to the MMA community and the fans and most of all Seth Petruzelli as, although my reactions can not change a referee’s decision, they were inappropriate at the time.”
It is not the first time that Shaw has been accused of showing favouritism towards Kimbo Slice.
When Slice fought James Thompson earlier this year, Shaw was seen shouting for the referee to “stand them up” as Slice was on the bottom and taking damage.
Good for Jared apologizing, and it will be interesting to see if he manages to keep his coked out cool during future events. Personally, the statement seems a bit insincere considering Shaw is still talking about illegal blows and such, but at least someone over at EliteXC realizes they can’t have one of their figureheads blatantly favoring one fighter over another. That shit’s supposed to stay on the down low.
