Inebriated post-UFC 119 thoughts

* Mike Fagan at Bloody Elbow termed the people crying about this card as “whiny little farts.”  I- at this moment – completely agree.  Enjoy competitve match-ups or GTFO.

* Further elaboration – when you reach the end of a fifteen minute fight and genuinely don’t know who won. how on God’s green Earth is that a shitty fight?

* I reiterate and defend my Guillard over Melendez prediction.  If you stand with Melvin, you lose, and if you go to the ground with Melvin, he gets up pretty quickly.  Guillard = my favorite sub-30 fighter with 60+ fights.  Jeremy Stephens should listen to his corner more instead of trying to counter a guy that’s faster than him for three rounds.

* Sean Sherk ain’t done.  I thought that his proclivity to box was due to his knees being shot, but I was incorrect, my friends – Sherk still has takedowns and mad clinch strength, and he seems to have learned that his T-Rex appendages lend themselves better to close combat.  Dunham deserves credit for lasting the distance (and almost subbing Sherk), not scorn for failing to win.  Sherk’s losses = Matt Hughes, GSP, BJ Penn and Frankie Edgar.  Suck it, haters.

* I told a friend of mine that his boyfriend was fighting tonight.  He responded “Chris Lytle’s fighting tonight?”  Who doesn’t love the guy?  Four straight wins.  Again, haters – suck it.  Put this man against whomever loses between Nate and Yushin.

* Ba-der, Ba-der, Ba-der!  Maybe it’s time for Leland Roling to admit that I was right and he was wrong.  Then again, the odds of that are about the same as the odds that Lil Nog is, or ever was, a top five LHW.  Wrestling uber alles.  I can taste your tears from here.  Watch out, Bones – I think Darth might have something for you.

* There should be a law stipulating that Frank Mir must always fight people larger than he is.  Mirko is pretty much Couture’s size at HW, and refuses to this day to even consider making the dip to 205.  Those that belittled the idea of the new HW division must be ashamed now that they see what a lesser skilled, larger man can do against a legend like CC.  As for Mir, let Carwin kick his ass again or something.

* McCorkle!

* I hate CB Dollaway, but that was pretty fucking sweet however you slice it.

* I can’t possibly end this on a compliment for Dollaway, so I’ll once again echo what Fagan said: watching fights between amazing mixed martial artists is what brought me here, and it’s what’s keeping me here.  I’d prefer the Powers That Be satisfy THAT urging rather than worry about the mainstream media or fickle-ass casual fans.  Tonight was about MMA, folks.  That’s what it’s supposed to be about.

  • andherewego says:

But but but … Snowden said it’s THE WORST UFC OF ALL TIME!!!! Apparently no one saw UFC 33 …

  • Reverend Clint says:

sometimes you dont know who won because neither guy did shit
I agree with most of what you said and say i will always watch a Lytle fight

  • Boog says:

andherewego, it’s like we’re inside each other’s heads or something….

  • LastDeadMouse says:

Sooooooo you love Lytle so much you want to throw him into the 185 division to get throttled by Okami or Marquardt?

  • subo says:

Oh yeah – I totally meant Shields and Kampmann, not Nate and Yushin. Crown Royal!

  • Grass Hoppa says:

“Further elaboration – when you reach the end of a fifteen minute fight and genuinely don’t know who won. how on God’s green Earth is that a shitty fight?”

There are 2 types of fights that you can watch where you dont know who won. The first is where both fighters give 100% and leave it all on the line, which is a great fight. The other, is when they both do so little and show no heart you don’t give a shit who won. That makes a shitty fight.

  • RaginAsian says:

Uh, Bader won that fight, but not as decisively as the scores said. Seems to me his power is based more on faulty chins.

Bones will rout him if that fight happens. Via slick greco-throw and hellbows. Guaranteed.

  • Letibleu says:

Main event to me felt like a co main event but shit i did enjoy the rest of the card.

I really do not like CB douchebag whats his new nickname Dollaway but that was sweeeeeeet. If he can back his shit up in this manner he will be golden. Rogan was licking his nuts.

I did not see the initial Mir knee that sent Crocop falling limp. It had me confused. The replay corrected this. Everyone around me was silent with questionmarks. If Mir did not score the KO we would have a ton of questions about eating vegetables. Lets question Mir none the less… I wanna know if Crocop was that good tonight or if we saw Mir’s plateau. I would like to see Crocop vs Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira next, personal wish list of course…

Lytle is wicked. Always was a fan and want to see him against Alves or Fitch. He could be ‘The One’ to derail Fitch.

Sean McCorkle vs Matt Mitrione? Too soon for McCorkle? I like it…

Sherk did not get the win in my eyes but whatever, the fight was great. I discovered a new shade of purple watching that fight.

Bader VS Jones NOW! Like NOW NOW NOW (insert 14 year old girl whiny brat noises here) !!!!

Guillard was good but like Subo said, it was painful to watch a Jeremy that did not understand he was a notch slower than guillard. Unfortunately Jeremy was the only person that did not realize this for 15 minutes. Lots of heart and no brains or both.

    Again, Lytle vs Fitch…

  • blutspender says:

Mir’s knees might beway more brutal than they actually look, when he hit Lesnar in the second round of their second bout, he came closer to knocking him out (atleast that’s what Brock said in post-fight interviews) than Carwin did with hundreds of punches..

  • 32hunter says:

    Dunham deserved that win.
    Cro Cop needs to retire.
    Holy shit on McCorkles armbar.
    Good win for Mitrione.
    Meh on Serra- Lytle.
    Meh on Guillard- Stevens.
    nice sub by CB.

  • Jim says:

I fell asleep after the Sherk fight. Thought the prelim fights were very good, main event fights not so much. Watched the Mir – Cro Cop fight this morning & wow what a joke. You can’t really blame Mir for it either. Cro Cop had the fight on the feet for 13 minutes & did nothing. Mentally, he doesn’t look able to fight any-more, UFC should just cut him & forget him.

  • Omomatta says:

I’m going to let this one slide because you clearly mentioned that you were piss drunk hammered. Sherk did not win that fight. I say Dunham’s next in line.

  • 32hunter says:

And we can bitch and whine as much as we want if the judges are shit and the fighters aren’t agressive enough. How the hell do we get our displeasure across if we don’t? the Commisions need to get their acts together or Dana should tell them to go fuck themselves, Tweak the judging criteria and some rules, it’s been 9 years already.

  • P W says:

“Mike Fagan at Bloody Elbow termed the people crying about this card as “whiny little farts.” I- at this moment – completely agree. Enjoy competitve match-ups or GTFO.”

Hahaha! Talk about shooting yourself in the foot! The fact that you’re so fucking defensive about it right off the bat indicates nothing but full awareness that it was one big yawn fest. Like when you approach a kid about a smashed window and he starts giving you a long speech about how he didn’t do it before you’ve even asked him the question.

  • 32hunter says:

Dunham deserves credit for lasting the distance (and almost subbing Sherk), not scorn for failing to win.

nobody has anything bad to say about Dunham or Sherk the Judges (or judging criteria)are to blame for that travesty.

  • P W says:

    “Holy shit on McCorkles armbar.”

  • 32hunter says:

I reiterate and defend my Guillard over Melendez prediction. -subo.

what a fucking loser everything has to be a swipe at non ufc mma. Fuck you asshole.

  • 32hunter says:

armbar- Kimura, some kind of armlock by the end of it all.

  • Sheps says:

Subo proving once again why he is the most despised writer on Fight Linker.

Dana White would shit on his cereal and this retard would say it was the best cornflakes he’s ever had.

  • frickshun says:

Card was good. Couple of awesome fights (Lytle & Dunham), couple of decent fights (Bader & Melvin) & then Mir. I don’t mind good match-ups that go to decisions but when all 3 judges have different scores……maybe we need to go to 5 fucking judges!! Dunham’s “loss” was embarassing to MMA. The good news is that Dana won’t care & the kid will move further up the ladder than Sean Shrunk.

  • AZ Bored says:

I can’t believe how much everyone hated the fights around the internet. I was mostly away from reading mma sites for the past few days leading up to the fights. I loved every fight but the main event. Shrug.

  • theinsaneoneJustinMcCully says:

I agree with most of what you said. Except, entertaining fights belong on UFN NOT PPV.
The Spike fights were the most exciting, so it worked out.
Let me buy you a tampon to share with your boy CroCop.

  • P W says:

It was the same story on this site after the last very mediocre card. Apparently there are no jackals left here anymore. They’ve been replaced by kittens.

  • Márcio says:

Snooze fest. Looking forward to the WEC card to finally watch some quality exciting fights. UFC cards this year have generally been desapointing. Judging criteria must change quickly, “the one takedown wins you the round rule” is gettin retarded.

  • CRM_Stephen says:

Nothing new is as good as something from the past.

  • Reverend Clint says:

dunham should have won simply because they both fought the same fight but he added sub attempts. Another good reason why the current judging system is flawed… he tried to finish like at least 3 times

  • YEAH RIGHT says:

Not a very good card, call me whiney, but the ufc has, what, over 250 fighter? im sure they could have put a better card together. Plus that main event was fucking horrible.
There was some good, competitive, entertaining fights, but then again, i have seen good competitive fights at small local shows. I expect more from the UFC.

Chris lytle’s boxing is fucking dirty! that was a fun fight to watch. Oh, and subo, you got your weight classes mixed up, Chris wont be fighting the loser/winner of nate/okami because lytle fights at 170.

And i dont get why your on baders hype train, he looked bad in that fight. He only got like what, 3 takedowns? And his striking didnt look good at all. Im not complaining about the decision because it was pretty close, i had lil nog winning, but it could have gone either way.

Oh, i had a dunham winning. Personally.

  • NinjaCodah says:

To me the card looked good on paper, but the PPV turned out to be a total snoozer. If I’m falling asleep, it’s because it’s utterly boring. It happens, I won’t blame the UFC for it. Instead I’ll blame the fighters who try to cheat the decisions by doing as little as possible.

  • kwagnuth says:

I just watched the fights and I am glad I didn’t spend any money on this piece of crap. The prelims were better than the ppv. Sometimes the UFC sucks but I am astill a Dunham fan though.

  • Simco says:

You are too concerned with BE.

  • Sodomize Intolerance says:

Either the UFC is including some amateur/bushleague fights or Sherdog is getting lazy, because Guillard is 26-8-2 on there. Which puts him at 36 (1 NC could push it to 37) fights, a tad away from 60+.

  • Tanhauser says:

I enjoyed all the fights.. though the main event wasn’t amazing.

I thought Serra looked a little out of shape.

I loved Nogs takedown defense. I thought he won rounds 2 and 3.

  • mamoru says:

“Either the UFC is including some amateur/bushleague fights or Sherdog is getting lazy, because Guillard is 26-8-2 on there. Which puts him at 36 (1 NC could push it to 37) fights, a tad away from 60+.”
The UFC goes with what guys tell them.
They can’t very well verify everyone’s record, especially guys like Melvin who fought a bunch on shitty bar cards in the middle of nowhere with no real oversight.
And the SD fightfinder is far from complete as well, simply because a lot of guys fight on shows that noone knows shit about except for the fighters, the 50 people in attendance and the owner of the bar/guy who made the chickenwire cage.

  • Grappo says:

Simco – “You are too concerned with BE.”

Because he writes with BE in mind. Subo takes a shit and you can bet he’s cross-posing the details on 3 different sites.

  • Simco says:

As states were legalizing MMA, a lot of pro fighters fought exhibition fights in areas where only amateur was allowed. Thousands of fights where two pros fought but it wasn’t recorded since they couldn’t legally be paid to perform.

  • godzillad says: has Melvin’s REAL record:

  • Reverend Clint says:

    only covers his UFC fights

  • P W says:

Melvin probably counted school yard tussles and face slaps from hot chicks when he compiled his record.

  • mmariusp says:

this write up is absolutely shit.
Did you really mean that this event was good? or is this another atempt to promote your beloved UFC?
Snowden writes som crazy things sometimes, but atleast he brings something to the table, you should take notes.

This main event was horrible, but the KO was so good it deserves a bonus, what was that about? i loved Rogans honest commentating here. who is the winner? not the fans.

i thought the Bader vs Nog fight was ok, and I thought Bader won.

the one thing who saved this card from beeing one of the all time worst was the dunham vs Sherk fight who was god damn awesome!
