“His chin hasn’t been tested and I think Georges has quit in him”

Strangely enough, there hasn’t been a whole lot of pre-fight smack floating around for GSP vs Kos outside of The Ultimate Fighter. But now that the fight is a short two weeks away, Josh Koscheck is starting to ramp things up a bit. Here’s a few of the more antagonistic answers he gave during a new Fighters Only interview:

FO: For this fight, ideally, would you like to put him on his back or keep him on his feet?

I have a great gameplan and my thing is, I don’t think George has a good chin and I don’t think his hands are that good. So I want to keep this fight on the feet and knock his ass out.

FO: Regarding your comment that St. Pierre has become a boring fighter – do you agree with suggestions that he has played it safe since the first fight with Matt Serra, when Serra put a shock TKO on him?

Yeah I believe so and I believe he hasn’t been hit since Matt Serra. That was a good crack. His chin hasn’t been tested and I think Georges has quit in him. If you look at the first Matt Hughes fight where he arm barred him, he was tapping before it was even tight.

If you look at when little Matt Serra was on top of him pounding him, he tapped out. So I believe that Georges has quit in him and you just have to take him to that point. Nobody has been able to do it since those two but I plan on doing it on December 11th.

Of course, this all depends on Koscheck being able to keep things on the feet, something few people (including himself) has been able to accomplish. Sure, there’s that whole “I didn’t train any wrestling leading up to the first fight” excuse from Josh. But I’d rather ignore that lame excuse and just hope that the Kos today is way better than the Kos from three years ago. If he’s able to do anything on his feet other than worry about takedowns, things could actually get interesting!

  • CAP says:

Either way it goes I’d like to see a damn finish in this fight. But a loss from GSP probably ruins any chance of a fight with Anderson but mixes up the WW division. I would be pretty surprised to see douche win by KO.

  • Remco Pardoel says:

I really hope GSP can finish, but as long as Koscheck goes home a loser, I’ll be happy.

  • Omomatta says:

I can see GSP finishing him like he finished Serra. With all of that smack talk, he’s more than motivated to destroy Kos.

    I predict pain.

  • frickshun says:

Kos has no chance here. And if Georgeses striking sucks…..then Kos shouldn’t even be licensed to fight!!

  • agentsmith says:

Kos doesn’t seem to realize that GSP isn’t just going to stand in front of him and wait to get punched like Yoshida and Trigg did.

  • Tanhauser says:

    I think he’s goldbricking.

His plan is to out wrestle him, which is what he’s been working on. I think he’s trying to make GSP think he’s gonna keep it standing.

  • Tanhauser says:

Kos has no chance, just like Werdum had no chance against Fedor, Cain had no chance against Brock, Edgar had no chance against Penn… ect.

  • Komodo says:

I hope Georges gives him the mother of all flattenings.

  • frickshun says:

    Kos has no chance.

  • YEAH RIGHT says:

Tan-Except most smart people were predicting Cain and Frankie(the second fight) to win, good point though. And as surprising the fedor loss was, everyone knew that if fedor was going to lose, it would be via submission.
Kos’ strength is wrestling. His wrestling is worse than gsp’s. Kos has a punchers chance, that’s it.

GSP has been working with freddie roach, the worlds best boxing coach. Expect his standup to be better. At least his head movement.

  • glassjawsh says:

“as long as Koscheck goes home a loser, I’ll be happy.”

take comfort in the fact that, regardless of the outcome of the fight, Josh Koscheck will be going home a loser

  • Komodo says:

    ^^ Win.

  • Tanhauser says:

That’s kind of a bullshit assessment. Matt Serra had a punchers chance and he’s not even remotely close to the caliber of fighter that KOS has become.

Idk if GSP’s wrestling is better. His take downs were amazing against a guy who wasn’t practicing his wrestling but had a better pedigree.

I think KOS has better submissions than GSP, and has a better chance on his feet, not to mention how much he has improved.

    GSP ain’t knocking anybody out.

I just want him to lose cuz I’m sick of his cock sucking fans acting like he’s god for not being able to finish a fight.

  • Tanhauser says:

And two days with Freddie Roach doesn’t make you Pac-Man.

GSP spends years with BJJ guys and can’t put on a fucking submission on Hardy.
I don’t buy this sponge bullshit.

  • Redping says:

hey man, hardy has some english blood in him, he must be descended from longbowman or something. Guy ain’t tappin’

GSP definitely has knockout power, are you silly? he just hasn’t used it in forever because he’s a Jackson fighter. I have the same feeligns about his striking though, Kos might push him around and he won’t like it. But personally i think that if GSP ends up somewhere he doesnt’ like, he’ll just wrestly kos to the ground and lay on him and everyone will cheer.

I just don’t see fraggle-rock having the necesary game plan to get through such a well-rounded guy who is so focused on doing one thing well. Hopefully he is gold-bricking, for the sports sake. But personally I’d like to se both of these guys stand up for once in forever, I mean they finally are fighting an opponent who’s strength isn’t his striking, can’t they risk it just this once? for us fans? maybe throw a jab? GSP’s tactic of making you think he’s going t ostand up with you and then taking you down, lead to about fifteen different ‘awws’ throughout his last fight

  • GoldenArms says:

KOS doesnt stand a chance on his feet or the ground. Squash match, bring on Anderson already!

  • dulljake says:

How long ago was that fucking Serra fight? 2007? You might as well have been talking about a different fucking guy.

He has evolved as a fighter, even though I think Jackson created a perfectly functioning Robot now. GSP beats Kos 9 times out of 10, but it doesn’t mean he can’t lose.

I’m more worried about GSP winning a decision. If that happens, the Dana White “wakeup call” about this safety fighter shit might put the whole camp in jeopardy (i mean, remember the last Rashad right as well? Couldn’t make that exciting, and Jackson can make a Machida fight palpable). Either way, I predict good changes in both worse case scenratio: Georges having to stop relying on this “be strategic” bullshit.

I think the problem is actually the way the fight game is engineered. When loses are so disastrous and there’s too much emphasis on victory, then people exploit niches that end up often turning a fun sport into something like the Olympics.

  • Schrute Boxe says:

when serra knocked out gsp, pride was still holding events. his chin is fine, in a relative sense the dude ate the same shots from alves that had previously put kos on queer street.

saying gsp has no jits because he couldn’t sub hardy is ridiculous since the sport is riddled with example of accredited grapplers getting out-jitsed by nobodies

  • Reverend Clint says:

i hate to agree with Kos but I think he has a point. That said i dont think kos can KO gsp even is GSP has a glass chin/shits his pants at the first good hit

  • YEAH RIGHT says:

^Don’t remind me about pride :/

He spent more than 2 days with freddie, freddie was going corner GSP but another one of freddies boxers had a fight.

I sincerely believe that GSP didn’t tap Hardy because he felt too bad. He had, what, 3 submissions fully set in without Hardy defending. He didn’t want to break his arms. A fucking white belt could have broke Hardy’s arms from the positions GSP was in.

I agree, GSP is boring, and fights safe. I’m just tired of boring ass wrestlers as a whole. I will still watch every one of GSP’s fights.

  • YEAH RIGHT says:

    Damnit rev.

  • DJ ThunderElbows says:

I think GSP has a glass ear. If you hit him there he goes all loopy and if you follow up with more punches he gets scared and taps out. Add-in Kos’ power and you get one chance for Kos to win.

I think GSP didn’t tap Hardy because he had terrible leg and hip placement for the armbar and the shoulder cranks. Donahue even told him so later. Georges never uses his legs well for grappling, but is exceptional with his upper body. Doesn’t seem to translate well into finishing positions for subs or strikes tho. Look back to the Hughes fight where he over-committed the Kimura without using his legs to control Matt genetic-freak/HRT Hughes. But (to bring this op/rant full-circle) he was being punched in the face at the time.

  • Márcio says:

When have I heard this kind of trash talk before? Oh yeah, I remember… every fucking time GSP fights, good luck not getting the shit beat out of you Kos, you’re really gonna need it.

  • Blackula Jonez says:

Kos has been training with Olympic wrestlers to make sure this isn’t a repeat of the 1st fight.

Too bad if he does that GSP is still a way better striker than him.

I see a finish in this fight due to Kos’s mental game, he will go for broke if he is down multiple rounds giving GSP enough of an opening to finish him. Kos may have the one hitter quitter advantage and could tag GSP in an exchange but even as a person who isn’t the biggest fan of Boss Canada I can still see GSP as the fighter with the most advantages and clearest path to victory.

But as long as Kos can negate GSP’s wrestling I will be happy, the forgone conclusion than any human standing in the octagon can be outwrestled by GSP is getting preposterous.

If Kos can pull of the upset (lets face it who has a better chance than him at 170) it will be par for the course for 2010 imo.

  • Tanhauser says:

    GSP can’t win forever.

    War KOS!
