GSP sure sounds excited about that Anderson Silva fight

The frenchman sows doubt about moving up to face Anderson Silva … three times in one interview:

“I don’t know (about fighting Anderson Silva). I need to sit down with my entourage and see first where this fight will take place and what weight, and a bunch of stuff. Right now I’m focusing just on Jake Shields, I don’t see further than Jake Shields.”

“It would take a long time (to add the size). Anderson Silva is a huge guy; he’s weighing around 230 pounds. He’s very big. Even when he fights as a light heavyweight, he looks bigger than the other guys.”

“I don’t know if I’m going to go up (to) 185. I have no idea; it’s a complete reorientation of my career. I have a lot to lose and I haven’t thought about it, I haven’t sat down to talk about it.”

For someone who’s always talking about trying to build a legacy as one of the greatest, he sure is hesitant about the one fight that’d take him to the next level. It’ll sure be nice when the Jake Shields fight is over so he can stop dodging questions because fighters are mentally incapable of thinking more than one bout ahead…

    Don’t be scared homie.

GSP is the epitome of the safe fighter. I think he’s gonna take the award from Mayweather Jr.

I doubt the fight will ever happen unless GSP loses and needs the fight.

  • Blackula Jonez says:

And people thought comparing this fight to Pacman vs Floyd was a good thing lol.

Be careful what you wish for mma fans.

  • Mixed Martial Adam says:

As a great a fighter as GSP is, he seems to have major confidence issues when it comes to his own abilities. Moving up to fight Anderson is not a safe thing to do, therefore GSP won’t be inclined to do it even though he has the perfect style to beat Silva.

Fortunately pressure from the UFC and the fans will be so great after UFC 129 that he may not have a choice in the matter. GSP has all the skills to win the belt at 185, but without the confidence to match them making this fight happen may be more difficult that the UFC had anticipated :(

  • G Funk says:

I’ve been saying it for over a year, GSP will not fight Silva. These responses have been the same since this “superfight” was brought up.

  • Rob2Kx says:

Weight classes exist for a reason. All this GSP has to move up to cement his legacy bullshit needs to stop. If Frankie Edgar wants to have a legacy he should fight Cain Valesquez. Now doesn’t that sound stupid? So why is it any less stupid that GSP should fight a guy who walks around 30+ pounds heavier than him?

  • Blackula Jonez says:

C’mon now, a light weight vs a heavyweight is not the same as a welterweight fighting a middleweight.

That being said I think GSP vs Andypants will go down like BJ vs GSP, when elite talents collide physical advantages will make the difference.

GSP is better off waiting until Andersons physical tools start to dull with age and fight him then ala Floyd vs Sugar Shane.

  • Rodriguez says:

Anderson’s legacy is much less important than GSP’s. As far as I’m concerned, Anderson needs the fight more so he should get down to 170 like he claims he can still do.

  • 7th Offensive says:

Huh? Andersons Legacy has surpassed GSPs. More wins and more title defenses, not to mention more finishes.

    Whut u smokin on?

  • Letibleu says:

Did Ryan just post something? I think I got something in my eye so I can’t be certain.

  • G Funk says:

  • GoldenArms says:

who is this person calling himself Fightlinker and when did subo allow him to start posting?

  • Blackula Jonez says:

I understand that GSP has had a good run in the ufc, but Anderson entire career has top 10 wins in 3 divisions,

Gave Mach Sakurai his first defeat back when he was a top 10 welterweight

Silvas UFC middleweight title reign speaks for itself

And he has gone up to 205 and obliterated a journeyman and a former champ.

GSP’s entire career has been at 170, making him a legendary welterweight, but Anderson gets my vote for best fighter period.

  • 7th Offensive says:

I’d say that GSP’s legacies are bigger sponsers and winning on points.

  • scissors61 says:

I guess I understand GSP’s position but this fight could potentially take the entire sport to a whole new level. A rising tide lifts all boats and GSP/Silva would be a motherfucking tsunami. I guess what I’m trying to say is, GSP needs to take one for the fucking team.

  • matthewpolly says:

If I were GSP or a member of his “entourage” [Ed note: someone teach GSP to use the word “team”; entourage makes him seem like a diva.], I’d be very nervous. Did you notice how much bigger Silva was than Vitor Belfort, who fought most of his career at light heavyweight? GSP can’t outstrike or submit Silva. His only option is GnP. In a title match that means at least five takedown against someone way bigger and taller. If I were GSP, I’d just keep getting paid at 170, but I’m a coward. It’s going to take all of Dana’s bullying charm to make this fight happen. After the Shields victory, expect someone like Kevin Iole to write a “Is GSP Afraid of Silva” article?

  • Billytk says:

I have to agree with the weight issue, Anderson should really be fighting a LHW I’m shocked he can make 185 consistently the guy is the size of some smaller HWs and GSP isn’t even the biggest WW in the UFC so even though I’m sure I’m in the minority I’d be more then happy if GSP doesn’t move up he’s already the #1 P4P fighter and I don’t see everyone bitching that Silva is afraid to move up to LHW (where he’s actually the same size or bigger then the other fighters in that division) and fight Machida, Rampage, Shogun, Jon Jones etc. So all the hate for GSP not fighting a guy who is realistically 2 weight classes above him is ridiculous.

  • scissors61 says:

People probably aren’t bitching about Anderson moving up  to 205 because he already has two times, and because they want to see him fight GSP more than Shogun or Jones. Just my theory on that particular question.

  • G Funk says:

Plus Andy has that whole,”That’s Machida’s belt” thing.

  • Jim Harbaugh Scramble says:

I was really surprised by how much bigger Silva was compared to Vitor. I guess Vitor hasn’t juiced in a long time.

Now Joe Silva does us all a favor and book Bisping/Vitor.

  • Letibleu says:

It would be suicide for GSP to go to 185 to fight Silva. It would be like gorish car crash that nobody can look away from. It is talked about so much in the media and amongst fans that it just might have to happen. The GSP “entourage” will push him to do it too because of the paycheck they will negotiate for this one fight. I think it would be one of the biggest money fights (might beat Brock Lesnar vs Dos Santos and UFC 100) in MMA.

  • scissors61 says:

Make no mistake Leti, GSP/Silva would be the biggest-selling fight in the history of MMA. By a mile.

  • Blackula Jonez says:

Fuck the fans and future beating, get that paper GSP.

Go for takedowns, throw elbows, pray for a tko cut stoppage.

  • glassjawsh says:

all i read was “blah blah blah entourage…..blah blah blah reorientate….blah blah blah my french canadian pussy is sore”

gsp has no confidence because he still hasn’t gotten over getting pantsed by Gee or whoever on the playground in Montreal when he was 7

get over it you vageen and take the fight everyone wants to see

  • Schrute Boxe says:

baloney, once Jones crushes Shogun later this month, fans will be clamoring for Silva to move up and challenge him instead.

  • G Funk says:

    ^ I hope he does

  • Predator8u says:

I’m glad GSP and his “GANGSTA A$$ CR3W”. Haven’t Even begun to think about the possible “SUPER-FIGHT” againist Silva. It seems as if they all have decided to be Content and settle with their current Status and wages. Just imagine those philosophical DEBATEs.

  • iamphoenix says:

i think you Are just writing THIS way ON purpose because you are a DICK or you JUST might be MENTALLY retarded.

  • Predator8u says:

Not at all, I just haven’t formed my thoughts into sentences in years so it HELP’s,  plus it gets DUMB people’s attention^

  • iamphoenix says:

you can’t form thoughts without capping every other word yet i’m the dumb one. that totally makes sense faggot.
