GSP: No longer pissed

Well, it was nice while it lasted. Matt Serra seems to be good at pulling off the impossible: not only did he destroy Georges St Pierre last time they fought, he also managed to piss St Pierre off for this fight. It’s nigh impossible to remember the last time Georges St Pierre seemed mad about anything … personally I used to doubt if he was even capable of getting angry. But for the past few weeks, Georges has been talking about lines crossed, things said, and so on and so forth. I kinda wondered if it was a good sign that GSP was taking things personally, or if that was just an indication of how Serra was still in his head.

Well, regardless of which it was, I guess it doesn’t matter now. Because Georges seems to have returned to his zen-like state:

“After the fight, no matter what happens, I’m gonna shake Matt Serra’s hand-A lot of things have been said, some stuff crossed the line a little bit, but I think Matt Serra is a good person and I want to fight the best Matt Serra for my honor. I want to be the real champion, and I want to beat the champion when he’s at his best, and I’m sure it’s the same thing for him. After the fight, win, lose, no matter, I’m gonna shake his hand and maybe we can have a drink together.”

Silly Georges … there’s no beer allowed at the hospital. I suppose I should be happy that the ‘old’ respectful GSP is back … he was never good at pulling off ‘cocky’ (remember the whole Matt Hughes “I Wasn’t impressed by your performance” incident) and even when he was pissed he just came off sounding kinda silly. The GSP who seems to just shrug off whatever’s going on in the world is the GSP I’ve actually come to know and love, even through it means there’s a lot less shit for me to write about him on this site.

this guy is pretty much an all around class act.

gonna be fun to watch Serra get beaten by someone who most likely walks old ladies across the street.

  • FRANKIE says:

Are you going to kill yourself if GSP loses to Serra again? I’m genuinely concerned here.

  • garth says:

i’ve always found the respectful GSP more scary…when the cage door closes, that’s a freaking awful site for someone to look up and see.

of course, the best fighter in the world can get knocked out with a 5 oz glove.

  • Threatis says:

he reminds me of the french goalie from Slap Shot.

“You do that, you go to the box, you know. Two minutes, by yourself, you know and you feel shame, you know. And then you get free. ”

    “then you

I have a bad feeling about this. REALLY bad feeling. I would never bet a dime against GSP cause i am a fanboy but…..What if his head is all fucked up and Serra pulls out another flash KO or a sub.
Forget the riots over Rocket Richard. ITS GONNA BE GO TIME IN THE SREETS OF MONTREAL.

  • Beau says:

I laughed so hard when I saw a commercial for the PPV after watching the new south park on Canada.

GSP: “You know, this guy crossed the line”
Serra: “I’m not your guy buddy”
GSP: “I’m not your buddy friend”

  • Jemaleddin says:

“another flash KO”? You really are a fanboy! That was a drubbing!

It’s not as though GSP was winning the standup and Serra got a lucky shot: GSP was losing, Serra landed a punch behind GSP’s ear (in GSP’s words), and then chased him down and beat the crap outta him.

And it really could happen again: as a GSP fan, I don’t want it to, but Serra is far more dangerous than his record would make him seem. He’s got 4 losses, but one was a freak KO and the others were decision losses to Karo, BJ and Din. Nothing to be ashamed about going the distance with those 3.

GSP had better bring his A game because even if the world doesn’t take him seriously, Serra’s a very real threat.

  • Tertio says:

You re right about the flash KO. It wasnt. Although it was a lucky shot that started the drumming. It wasnt Matt Serra picking him apart Anderson Silva style (or GSP style like in his second match against Hughes)
Serra is a dangerous guy but GSP should be able to dominate him. I see the fight going to the ground early with GSP managing the mount with Serra eventually give his back, or an arm.
Serra could get lucky again !

    Fuck i love MMA.
