Takanori Gomi has signed with Affliction and will be fighting some guy named Rafaello "Tractor" Oliveira on August 1st.

Personally, I'm about as sick as a Croation with salmonella poisoning of seeing big names taking on no names. When will fight promoters learn that it takes two to tango, and a fight between Gomi and some guy is about as intruiging as a block of wood? Would I say no Gomi would be preferable to Gomi fighting an outmatched kid? I would considering Affliction needs to stop hemorrhaging money if they plan on sticking around and throwing more events.

As for Oliveira, pretty much all we have to go on is his 8-1 record, which sounds impressive till you start looking at the records of the guys he's beaten ... 12-11, 3-6, 7-6, and wins over the like of 'Fabio Fabio' and 'Big Big'. The only decent guy he fought (Lyle 'Fancy Pants' Beerbohm), and while he looked decent in that fight, he didn't show off anything special (other than possibly hemophilia).

I'm not about to say Oliveira has no chance against Gomi because who knows if Gomi has actually been training or if he's just been sitting around doing whatever it is he does that makes his face get fatter and fatter. But it's pretty clear to me that Oliveira represents the hardest opponent Gomi was willing to face, and I think that's pathetic. Here's hoping Gomi gets tooled just as badly as he did the last time he underestimated an opponent in America.

fuck gomi no respect for a fighter who dodges TOP competition

Gomi is fighting merely for the paycheck now. He probably asked Affliction matchmakers for an easy warmup fight as part of his deal, and they obliged him. ANY lightweight fighter would gladly take a fight with Gomi, so if he had actually wanted a challenging fight, Affliction would have set it up. Gomi wants to fight cans and get paid. You can see by the dead look in his eyes (in all of his recent pics and footage) that he doesn't give a shit about anything anymore.

As for Affliction, they are going under no matter whom they sign up. Their days are numbered. They put on three good cards (including the upcoming one); but that's about as far as they're gonna go. Affliction is damn near done.

Always good to see Gomi fight, yes it would be nice to see him fight better competition but maybe he needs a warm-up fight, guys get this on the UFC all the fucking time and no one cares, as soon as another organizations does it it's the doomsday scenario.

- Fedor Emelianenko (30-1) vs. Josh Barnett (24-5)
- Renato "Babalu" Sobral (32-8) vs. Gegard Mousasi (25-2-1)
- Vitor Belfort (18-8) vs. Jorge Santiago (21-7)
- Gilbert Yvel (36-13-1) vs. Paul Buentello (27-10)
- Takanori Gomi (30-5) vs. Rafaello Oliveira (8-1)

Isn't that a great card? Maybe people could stop bitching about every little thing. As for Affliction folding, I fucking hope not, but the nexy Strikeforce card is looking pretty sweet, so I'm not that worried.

You said it. Did people forget that Gomi has lost 2 out of the last 3 fights. He needs a warm up fight, and fighting Tractor (who was winning against Fancy Pants until the cut) is a really good test for Gomi.

The Affliction and Strikeforce cards for August are COMPLETELY STACKED.

Oliveira has one hell of an eyebrow

Yeah after Gomi's recent form, he needs a tune up fight. Great to see Gomi return to America. Unfortunately I don't think his drawing power with the American hardcores is enough to justify a six-figure purse (which he will no doubt get) though. What the hell is it with Affliction and their obsession to blow money?
Shocbomb
Hey like I have said before countless times now if Affliction wants to keep wasting money on these stupid ass signings like this all that much better for me and other hard core MMA fans who want to see these fighters fight but the bottom line when its comes to Business this is just another horrible fighter signing and another epic Fail buy Affliction. All a high priced signing like this does is put another nail in Afflictions coffin that much faster.

Bolth the signing and the opponent make no fucking sence what so ever. Especially for a organizartion that is cash strapped like Affliction and needs to build stars from within and from the U.s who can talk English. The casual North American MMA fan has no idea who Gomi is and really does not care. I just don't understand at all who ever makes these decisions at Affliction for fighter signings does not see this buy now ? And if yopu are going to spend money oon a fighter like Gomi atleast put him up against some good competition this fight is just a waste.

Well, I'm a fan of the sport and the fighters, so as long as the fighters are taken care of, that's all that I need. It never seems to amaze me how much "mma fans" care about the profitability of the organizations but don't give a shit about the fighters. The UFC fucks their fighters (and even the ones wich are not signed by them) in the ass and everybody is a-okay with that shit, but as soon as Affliction gives a fighter a sturdy paycheck people get all up in arms. So silly...
Shocbomb
Yeah Marcio thats really taking care of your fighters when you over pay them so much you run your whole org right into the ground.Sure the UFC has its faults but Please Zuffa fighters get paid more on average then any other fighters in MMA in any other org. Just being in the UFC makes sponsors and there money want to sponsor a fighter about 100 times more becasue of that name UFC. Atleast the UFC gives a fighter a stable place to work and Job security that you know when you have a fight booked with AZuffa next month that they won't go belly up.

WOW... way to pull random facts out of your ass. Where to start? Zuffa pays more "on average" than any other organization? That's wrong... Afflicition pays more and the other majors DREAM, Sengoku and Strikeforce I'm sure don't pay that much less than the UFC who is immensely more profitable.
Being a sponsor in the UFC from UFC 100 and beyond requires you to pay 100.000 dollars to Zuffa, just to be able to talk to the fighters, how does that help fighters get good sponsorship deals? Again, undercard fighters are being fucked in the ass by the almighty Zuffa.
Job Stability? Right, as if Zuffa never ever ends contracts unilaterally. thar never happens right?
Once agaiin, people don't give a fuck about the fighters, they're fans of the brand, not the sport or the athletes, if they were they would be happy to see them make more money and being abble to provide a better life for them and their families. But who cares about that as long as Dana and the Fertitas can build a new office every other month...

Shocbomb also fails to take note of the fact that a main eventer on an Affliction card will make more in one fight than someone like Keith Jardine has made in his ENTIRE UFC CAREER. And Jardine was just in the main event of a UFC card. Pathetic.

I guess job stability with Zuffa is really cool, so long as you actually get to fight and don't get cut for not signing over your lifetime rights, losing two fights in a row (like Marcio Cruz, even though they were both a competitive fights and he'd just beat current interim champ Frank Mir) or aren't benched for over a year like Arlovski was once you get the nerve to ask for a raise from that 7k/7k contract. Oh, and don't even think about having an agent negotiate for you, that'll just get you blackballed that much sooner.

Yeah! UFC rulz!!!!!11!
unclefesterdanawhite
The problem with Affliction overpaying fighters is that the organization will go under and then Zuffa will be left with even less competition. That is not good. I want Affliction to survive. Unfortunately it's too late for that.
Shocbomb
Please the UFC is the most stable and best place for a paycheck out there in MMA. I guess if you liek fighting ounce a year for Affliction then you can go there and fight. Also people like Jordan Breen have talked about even though the UFC has a long way to go in fighter poay they pay on the average better then any other MMA org out there and there sponsor money is 1000 times bettet then any other org also.
Shocbomb
Also let me know of another organization that pays there undercard fighters more then the UFC ? THe fighter pay has done nothing but go up shit I remember 3 years ago when fighters were lucky to get 3 and 3 on the under card some 2 and 2. Now we see most getting 8 to 10 and 8 to 10 to win. No other MMA org anywhere pays that to there undercard fighters. Affliction on a whole should be left out of any conversation on fighter pay sence the average about 1 show every 11 months. and lets not forget Afflictions payrole was cut back BIG time sence there first show its not this Green other side of the fence like some of you make it out to be for fighter pay.
MMAMoneyLine
Yeah...what's with his head anyway? I'd rather see Hieron/Daley on the main card to be honest.

shocbomb: I'm glad you don't let facts get in the way of your crush for the UFC, I know it's hard but at least try to be somewhat truthful.

1) Affliction is just getting started and they are doing THREE events in the space of ONE YEAR.

2) Afflicition doesn't tie their fighters on exclusive contracts... that means, they can go on and make their living fighting for other organizations when there's no Affliction cards.

3) What proof do you have that the fighters contracts have been re-negotiated? Every fighter that has been asked about that as veemently denied it.

4) UFC paying more to their undercard fighters that anyone else is bullshit again. If you compare the payroll of the prelim fights in UFC 98 and Affliction 2 you'll realize that, but who cares about the truth, right?
Shocbomb
Marcio please stop making me laugh with the Affliction is just starting out shit. OK just starting to hammer the final nail in there coffin is more like it ? Also what proff do I have that they cut back pay ? There own fucking pay release figures that are on MMA Weekly on the few fighters they released them on. Hears and example Matt Lindland was payed $375,000 for his Win in Banned. 3 to fight and 75 to win in Day of Reckoning he got $225,00 win or loose and if he beat Vitor he would of only gotten a $75,000 win bonus so thats what a $75,000 cut back right there. another fighter Babalu got $90,000 for Banned includes $30,000 win bonus in Day of Reckoning he got $80,000 counting his win. Another cut back. Marcio the bottom line is they have to cut back on fighter pay there is no dam way they can survive with that crazy of a payrole and only brining in 100,000 or not even PPV buys. They will be lucky if they can do 4 to 5 shows. I like others think they will run one maybe 2 more after Trilogy. Most think trilogy is there last no matter what Atencio or Beard say.
Márcio
That's just the official report, they could be payed the rest in bonus or some other way. How about all the other points I made? You couldn't refute them so you ignored them... nice going.
Shocbomb
what are you talking about what points ? Also things are looking real good right about now for Affliction with Barnett getting busted for roids ? Please I am ready for the final nail to go in this joke of a orgs coffin and for there fighters to go to the UFC,Strike Force or Japan
