Carcass
- Happy
While the Pan-Ams were going on in the states, so as not to feel left out Carcass took a road trip along with Gracie Barra Sheffield to compete in the prestigious (not really) UMA Groundfighting championships.
After a bit of a fuck-up in the final, I came away with a silver medal at <65kg and 4th in the <75kg (they took me out of the open weight to make the numbers work and just gave me extra fights one weightclass up instead).
Gi-chokes (cross collar and ezekiel) from guard were the order of the day and proved effective!

speaking of pan ams, my instructror (jorge britto) took gold in his black belt division...but none of our other guys won (we sent 5 ppl down)

other friend won her first match 12-0, and went on to lose in the quarters to the girl who came first in her division

congrats man, that is a pretty pimp accomplishment

i have never understand why you start on your knees in jits, why cant you start standing up, like in a real fight

So you grapple instead of wrestle.

naw, in tournaments you always start standing, but in training, for space reasons (aka 70 guys training in one room at a time) you'll often start on your knees

That BJJ rap in the highlight video was awesome!!!

In BJJ, you start standing. However, this was a tournament under Judo 'newaza' (groundfighting) rules - you start back to back and you're not allowed to come up any higher than one knee, even to pass the guard. That's how judo guys practice their groundwork.
The tourney was open to all styles so we went down and cleaned house :D There were some funny pics of guys on the podium - 1 and 2 wearing white belts and BJJ gis with a judo black belt on the 3rd spot.

congrats carcass

Gratz dude.

I flew down to LA from Alaska to compete in the Pan Ams. I won my first 2 matches, first by points 12-0, second by submission via mounted traingle in under 2 minutes. Lost my third match by 2 points but should have, I wasn't awarded mount points I should have got which would have given me the win. Overall I was happy, it was my first competition and only been training for a year.

My teammates did well too, 6 people went down we took back 2 golds, and a silver.
Carcass
Well done Busket, well done indeed!
kentyman
Congrats to you both!
