Those looking forward to seeing Anderson Silva in London this April are gonna be disappointed: he's just publicly stated he won't be fighting on the card because February 'isn't enough time' to prepare. This of course is total bullshit, if you ask me. My opinion is that Anderson Silva's "Fight anyone anywhere" attitude has changed due to the "anyone" part of the equation being abused by the UFC. Michael Rome sees things the same way:
It's very clear to me that this is not a time issue, just a few months ago Anderson wanted to be fighting all the time. It's obvious that Anderson had no interest in fighting guys like Luis Cane or Thales Leites, and he appears to be more interested in boxing training than fighting guys on that level.
What can be done for Anderson Silva at this point? The middleweight division is a mess, none of the potential fights are marketable, and it sounds like he isn't interested in fighting unless the fight is a big fight. There are obviously 185 options all over the world that would be interesting to hardcore fans, but Anderson seems to be only interested in doing big fights.
Here's the problem with big fights though: why let Anderson Silva destroy dudes like Quinton Jackson and Chuck Liddell when Silva is just planning on riding off into the sunset once his contract is done? The UFC seems to be avoiding setting up big fights for the middleweight champ. Too many of it's big names are on the ropes at the moment and a loss to Silva could mean two or more dudes retiring this summer instead of just one. I can definitely understand where Anderson is coming from too. The dude is trying to create a legacy for himself and the best the UFC can find for him to fight is James Irvin, Patrick Cote, and Thales Leites?
I figured he was on the "anyone anywhere anytime" shtick because he was ready to retire. I still think he's ready to retire, so my suspicion is that he really doesn't want to take this fight because he doesn't have enough time to prepare.
He doesn't want to fight him without preparing because he doesn't want to be submitted.
I agree also if Anderson is #1 eather realy leaving after 5 more fights or #2 is just fucking around moving to LHW and does not plan on sticking there and making a run at the LHW belt why match him up against your star fighters in the LHW devision ? Sure that fight will sell but in the long run all it does is diminish the fighter that lost star power and appeal. I put alot more blame hear on Silva he has to fucking decide what he wants to do. This Bullshit that we does not want to fight for the LHW belt becasue he does not want to hold back Machida is just bullshit. Anderson eather fight who the UFC puts in front of you at MW and stay there and defend that title or move up to 205 and make a run at the title one of the fucking other !!!! On the other hand the UFC should also try to bring in some more star power in the MW devision becasue a fight between eather Bisping or Maia is a fight or 2 away for them and Okami the one who should be fighting Silva is fighting Dean Lister, Why the UFC made that fight who the Fuck knows, The Elite XC contract shit is fucking up a fight with Robbiw Lawler so I think the UFC should try to bring in Yoshihiro Akiyama not only would that be a great fight with Silva but if the UFC wants to move into South Korea they could not ask for a bigger star then Akiyama.
It's gonna take some smart maneuvering by the UFC to do this right for the fans, the fighters, and anderson silva. I'm just hoping this isn't the beginning of a cooling between the two groups.
My theory is he and his management want a title shot now at LHW and perceive the current scenario at Lightweight and Welterweight as giving them a good argument that this should happen. Penn's defended his title once then got a straight shot at a title a weight class above his own. He hasn't had to have any preparatory fight in that weight class against an acknowledged gatekeeper and he hasn't had to defend the title in his own weight class since asking for this superfight against St Pierre.
Silva probably sees himself as much as a star as Penn or St Pierre and is looking for the same sort of dynamic between MW and LHW as is being afforded the holders of the LW and MW titles.
Jakey LHW is the UFC $ devision and probably there deepest also ? You can't compare a super fight between WW and LW like you could MW and LHW plus BJ has alot of history in WW and history with GSP . Any one who fights for the title at LHW is going to have to earn that shot no matter there STAR Power. All this shit could of been cleared up if the UFC put Okami in with Silva instead of making that stupid ass Dean Lister fight ?
I think he's holding out for the super-fight. He's already beaten a legit LHW and has been unstoppable in his own weight-class. If the winner of Griffin-Jackson emerges unscathed then Silva's management might ask that he defends the LHW belt against Silva in April.
It would be rude to put Silva in the ring with anyone in the MW division.
I want to see Anderson vs Chuck because a win for Chuck would put him back in LHW contention and lets be fair: He has little to no time left in the sport.
Yushin Okami is getting hosed by the UFC. I'm pretty sure Okami would rather fight Anderson Silva Feb 21st in the main event instead of fighting Lister on the fucking undercard Dec 27th. I really don't like the UFC's way of doing business. It's not cool to pass up the legitimate #1 contender like that just because you don't think he's 'marketable' enough.
Anderson Silva has denied being offered any fights (according to the Fight Network). He basically stated other people are making shit up then shitting on him because the rumors aren't true.
Plus the interest of the MW division will be served to some extent by Franklin Henderson - then the Ultimate Fighter 9 series with Bisping, so Silva moving up for a fight or 2 does not leaving the division completely devoid of meaning..
