 Past sending a message to other agents that it's "my way or the highway", there's more to the AKA hitjob than being sick of a specific agent. Many of us have been saying that lifetime videogame rights are a pretty strange straw to break the camel's back. But it looks like that straw might actually be an anvil in the form of THQ being pissed off that the UFC misrepresented the situation to them on fighter rights:It appears that the UFC may have gotten itself into a bit of a predicament as sources indicate that THQ, who is producing promotion's upcoming video game release “UFC Undisputed 2009,” operated under the auspices that they had exclusive rights to the likenesses of all fighters on the UFC roster. Five Ounces of Pain has been informed that THQ was none too pleased upon learning that rival Electronic Arts has commenced work on an MMA game of its own and that plans are in motion to involve a great deal of recognizable fighters. The sources have indicated that in addition to names such as Randy Couture, Tito Ortiz, and Frank Shamrock that known UFC fighters could potentially be featured as well. You've seen how Dana White still marks out hardcore to ESPN and I don't doubt that they're the same way with THQ. They don't want to look foolish in the eyes of the gaming industry, and a major fuckup like missing a bunch of fighters could result in THQ being less willing to continue making a yearly video game with them. Because hey, if the UFC isn't able to lock down the new guys coming in every year, then how can THQ compete against EA's offering? Dana White might be glib about Fitch, Koscheck, and Velasquez moving any game units. But Fitch was just up for a title shot and who knows where Koscheck and Velasquez would have been over the course of the next year? Imagine how stupid everyone involved in the game would look if their video game didn't feature one of the guys who became UFC champion. So yeah ... you can see why Dana White is spazzing out. Is he handling things correctly? No. But if you were wondering why he's acting like he just found out DeWayne Zinkin put his dick in Dana's mouth while Dana was sleeping, there you go.  Man this is ridiculous, pissing Valesquez off like that is like telling Lebron James to fuck himself, the guy is one of the most talented up and coming HW out there, who if he went to another league could make some huuuge waves. This is exactly what Affliction needs good fighters to build a stable instead of having 2 good guys at each weight class. I read a quote of Dana saying Fitch should sign with Affliction and see how they treat him, douchy as they are I doubt they'd do this over rights to a video game.  While the EA angle sounds interesting, can anyone actually imagine that game selling without the UFC's name attached to it?  it sounds to me like THQ don't want to play on a level free-market, which makes no sense. There have been NHL, NBA, NFL, hell every major sports game among different video game companies that share rosters and likenesses.I really want to know why it is such a big deal for THQ  If your game is the only one with all the ufc fighters in it. Which game is the consumer likely to buy?  Answer: The one with Frank Shamrock, of course. but that's the point, at any given time there are 2-3 football games that all have the same NFL players Well if all the UFC fighters don't sign the agreement and Dana fires all of them then I guess there won't be any more UFC fighters and everyone would be fucked. Regardless, I don't see the EA game taking off with only a handful of former UFC fighters and no promotional brand to go with it. Now if another promotion scooped up those fighters and others then it could do something. I agree shrute, why wouldnt the ufc licence all gamemakers and make money from all of them? It was probably beyond his mental capability to foresee such a scenario so he promised exclusivity to thq for a sizeable fee. Then he has to strongarm all the fighters into seeing it his way and so here we are. He should be replaced with someone who is more of a diplomat. @ Schrut Boxe That's not true. EA has had teh NFL exclusive for several years and it sucks. There is only one game that you can buy that has current NFL rosters and that is Madden. That is why there is Blitz: The League with mostly old and retired players. Yeah i gotta second what captain is saying the nfl has sold their soul to Madden. Other football games can only buy the rights to retired players.  same with MLB games they are all made buy EA sports all MLB players singed there likeness over the EA sports. So I don't see what the problem is Same shit Dana is trying to do, Its the point I was trying to say it happens most other major sports today. Maybe Fitch and the managers for AKA think that Frank Shamrocks game will sell better and they can get a better deal there ?  +1 kentyman. I'll only play the Shamrock game if he's got braces.  id only play if i get to repeatedly beat him to death with his own leg  I would love an MMA game where I could continuously beat the shit out of Travis Fulton, and where I could climb the ranks with Wayne Weems I would love to play an MMA video game where I could play Gina Carano and beat up Mike Pyle And these are some of the people that would sell their lives to be in a video game. (not Gina) UFC is nice, but their is a world of other fighters that would be fun to play with  I believe the reason behind a reason is called a warrant.
