MMA Torch has a unique perspective on how to get over the whole Brock Lesnar / Pro Wrestler thing. They argue that just because Brock was a pro wrestler for several years, it doesn't mean that is who he really 'is', in the grander scheme of things:
Brad Pitt once appeared on "Growing Pains" and George Clooney had a recurring role on "The Facts of Life," but neither one did it because it was their dream to appear on a sitcom or for the love of either one of those programs. They were young actors looking to put food on the table and to hope to make it out of such roles in the future.
Brock Lesnar was a young athlete and was able to utilize those gifts and garner a nice paycheck by being a professional wrestler for a moment, but this was only to put food on his table and perhaps give him the chance to do that which he wanted in the future. We all would take a huge paycheck to do something we didn't love, and I guarantee that many of you would toss Danny DeVito's salad for one million dollars, but you sure as hell wouldn't want someone asking you how it tasted three years later. You would argue that you weren't gay and merely did it for the money.
A young George Clooney also appeared on an episode of the Golden Girls where he played a young cop on a stakeout who eventually gets shot. In it he strikes up a rare non-sexual relationship with Blanche.
Don't ask me how I know this or I'll kick all of your asses!
Oh I'm not saying anything. I'm just generally amused at how people are trying to compartmentalize the situation so they don't start weeping over a WWE superstar holding the heavyweight belt. I say hey ... Bob Sapp almost beat Big Nog too. Shit happens. If he's good, he'll earn it. If he sucks, he'll be exposed.
I proudly spazzed out when he fought. He was my hero for a long time. Then I grew up & got out of the WWE, but I will always remember those good times :D
Not even that. I'm thinking of Japan where more than a few of the big names in the history of the sport (Saku probably being the biggest) got their start in pro-wrestling. Hell, Pride 1 was headlined by a pro-wrestler (Takada) vs Rickson.
i have a scar on my chin from where i got stitches when i was about 5 years old becuase of my hulk hogan action figure fell down a heater duct and i tried to jump to save it before it melted and fell down a flight of stairs.
I had Ricky the Dragon Steamboat. I was pissed off because i wanted a white wrestling figure. I wonder how much of a racist little shit i sounded like to my parents complaining about that every time I'd pull Ricky out. "Stupid yellow man" I'd say before whipping him at a wall.
