Fighters talk about steroids

There’s a couple of different attitudes regarding PEDs floating around the fighting world. You’ve got the Johnny Boy Scout guys swearing up and down that steroids are wrong and they’d never take them. Represented here by Mark Munoz:

“The thing about PEDs, everyone wants to get an edge on the competition, but I feel with PEDs you’re actually cutting your life shorter. I think when you take such drugs it’s damaging your body in a way, because anything synthetically enhanced, it’s going to do something bad to your body in the long term. For me, I’m a father and a husband, so I want to be here later on. So if I’m taking something synthetic, it’s just going to disrupt the natural process of the body and then shut down your kidneys or give you diverticulitis in your 30s or give you heart disease. If they did research on PEDs, (they’d find) it really does shorten your life. So if I’m taking PEDs, I’m shortening my life, and therefore I’m not looking towards my first priority, which is my family. PEDs is cheating. Stop cheating — there’s no substitute for hard work. If you don’t want to work hard, do something else! Stop cheating!”

And then we’ve got the slightly more laissez-faire attitude represented by Phil Baroni:

I want to see the best fighters, I want to see who is the strongest the best! Guys should be able to do whatever it takes to be the strongest. Getting choked and kicked in the head is really bad for you, worse than pot, TRT, or steroids. I don’t care who’s the cleanest, I wanna see the strongest, the fastest and the most gnarly fighters. I don’t want to see who is the best at passing drug test. Overeem isn’t the only guy taking shit, he just got caught. I wanna see the baddest mother fuckers going at it. That’s why PRIDE was the best — I wanna see a 205 (ripped) Wanderlei Silva kill dudes!

Not only are there more Phil Baronis out there than you’d imagine, but half the boy scout types are lying about their usage too. Anything to be the gnarliest fighter ever!

Munoz is all the sudden a researcher or a Doctor or some sort or authority on biology. How can he know the effects of PEDS is he never studied in anything mildly related to the effects of drugs on the body or even experienced them?

  • DJ ThunderElbows says:

Well, there are some issues with the muscle growth causing enlarged hearts, but that’s not definitive that I know. The issue for combat sports is increasing the already life-threatening risks the opponent has agreed to.

I don’t give a fuck if Galaxair wants to blow his heart up at the age of 44.

  • frickshun says:

This issue is gonna be like smoking was decades ago……”We had NO CLUE WHATSOEVER that inhaling burning smoke would be bad for you!!”

  • DJ ThunderElbows says:

Yeah, remember when it was just called Lung Fever?

  • Jarman says:

Hmmmm….one problem with munoz’ line of logic…..isn’t it fighters working too hard, in pursuit of short term goals, that leads them to the fast track of PED healing, that without which they would have to drop the fight due to injury? Seems that it’s this environment of accelerated development of abilities that traps fighters into dropping a fight (huge dis-cred), or trying to cycle clean to fight near 100% that’s the problem, not fighters being lazy. Way to present the extremes of attitude in the sport, and not the grey middle where most PED using athletes fall.

Personally, I would watch the sup’d up biotech cyborg battles (hey, we got one side with cristiane!), but they wouldn’t hold the magic of unenhanced athleticism and work ethic that may or may not have been a major part of why I enjoy MMA.Doesn’t matter if you cover yourself in girly smelling cream, but if you pwn fools like a twice-held-back grade 10 without hormonal enhancement, there should be true recognition. anyone can design a fighter, it takes a true competitor to do such without scientific enhancement.

  • There is no need for steroids for anything any more, not with the new wave of super supplements being developed…
The best supplements to use to gain lots of muscle mass are the muscle building supplements found at Muscle Fitness
I’ve been having my trainees use them for years, and they work far better than anything else out there on the market. I HIGHLY recommend them to anyone who truly wants to build lots of muscle in a healthy way.
They even have a really cool bodybuilding forum where they will help anyone to train with lots of free coaching and training online. It’s pretty cool!
