Even though Spike TV is available across Canada, tonight’s Fight for the Troops 2 card will be playing on another channel as well: Rogers Sportsnet. Not only do Sportsnet viewers not have to watch endless commercials for Manswers, Blue Mountain Shit, and Castrol, they’ll also have an opportunity to support Canadian troops. Instead of focusing on the Intrepid Fallen Heros Fund, the event will instead pimp the Canadian Hero Fund:
The initial project of the Canadian Hero Fund is to provide post-secondary scholarships to the children and spouses of fallen Canadian soldiers. Scholarships awarded by the Fund help finance post-secondary education at government-accredited universities, colleges and technical schools.
A noble charity indeed, although I do have to say the USA wins in terms of heartwrenching causes that need support. I’m all down for the kids of fallen soldiers getting scholarships, but after watching last year’s Fight for the Troops again and seeing the tragic stories of troops with traumatic brain injuries, cheaper college tuition doesn’t quite compare. And I’m Canadian!
Whatever your nationality or thoughts on the stupid, stupid, fucking stupid wars in the Middle East, it’s still human beings who’s lives are being destroyed and they need help. We let the UFC rape our wallets regularly for our PPV fix. I’m sure we can scrounge up a few dollars for a good cause – for either or both charities.
