Fedor vs Tim Sylvia in July?

It’s pretty amusing when a fighter actually agreeing to fight is considered world-shaking, ground breaking news. But such is the case with Fedor, and it’s doubly shocking that he’s taking on – gasp – a TOP TEN HEAVYWEIGHT in Tim Sylvia.

Details are sketchballs at the moment, but basically it looks like this is the doing of none other than Affliction and Mark Cuban, who don’t seem to have an issue losing a cool million+ bucks on a balls to the wall event. The big question right now is if this fight will get inked, because you all know how hard it is for Fedor and his peeps to actually sign a contract:

If the bout makes it all the way to the dotted line, it is expected to take place at the American Airlines Arena in Dallas, the home of HDNet Fights. Independent sources confirmed to MMAWeekly that the bout would be promoted by an as yet unannounced organization associated with the Affliction clothing brand. The Sherdog report indicated the same, but also noted that the fight would be broadcast on Mark Cuban’s HDNet.

Dispite anything Fedor being involved with lately falling into ruin, I’ve got a feeling this will actually go through. The Russians have been pretty aloof in their contract demands, which to me points to an ace up the sleeve in the form of Mark Cuban already agreeing to retardo terms for Randy vs Fedor in the Fall. Of course, Cuban knows you can’t just throw Fedor in front of Americans without a warm up, and who better for him to face than the goofy Maine-iac, who’s arms are so nice and long for Fedor to armbar.

At this point I’m pretty sick of all the machinations going on involving Fedor. To me, the most awesome conclusion to this whole situation would be for Fedor to get knocked the fuck out, and then everyone involved looking at eachother like they just swallowed a big polish hotdog sized turd.

“the most awesome conclusion to this whole situation would be for Fedor to get knocked the fuck out”

I’m with ya there. Not a fluke-y KO either. Pure destruction Anthony Johnson-style.

  • kentyman says:

    Don’t count on it.

If the event happens, I’ll be there watching the armbar in person.

  • I might just have to come down there and test how comfortable your couch is for sleeping on

  • kentyman says:

I’ll be driving up to Dallas from Austin (3 hour drive) for it, but you’re pro’ly welcome to sleep on one of my Dallas friends’ couches. :)

  • clint notestine says:

If the Man Yak did win this fight that would be the ultimate answer to the Pride vs UFC squabble.

  • Dangerfield says:

I wouldn’t be able to see that in person. I don’t want to have to walk around Dallas with shit dripping down my leg from excitement. What I’m trying to say is, I’d shit my pants if I saw Fedor vs Sylvia live.

The amount of storylines that would pop up from this fight are great to consider.

You’ve got Monte Cox, agent and friend of Sylvia, the Fedor camp screwed Cox over hard with a big screwdriver and made him look the fool. A Sylvia win would devastate Fedor’s “worth” on the free agent market and likely earn Sylvia the respect of the hardcore fans… a nice launchpad for a potential M1 start-up (or at least a nice payday when Dana drops millions on Sylvia in gratitude for beating Fedor).

You’ve got Dana White, who you can imagine would be more than pleased with a Sylvia victory over Fedor, ending all talk of Fedor being the greatest heavyweight out there. Literally this would be the biggest dagger into the heart of the Pride vs. UFC talk of the idiotic fanboys that White seems to obsess over.

Couple that with the fact that there’s literally no downside to this fight from a UFC backers perspective… if Fedor wins, he beat the crappy Sylvia who nobody really likes. The fight likely won’t be seen by anyone, neither Fedor nor Sylvia are any real draw in North America.

You’ve got Couture, whose supposed “big payday” looks to be eaten by Sylvia taking the Fedor fight. Sylvia wins and the bloom goes off the rose for a Couture/Fedor matchup… not to mention that few people would be too interested in a Sylvia/Couture rematch.

Oh goodness, how it would create great justice if Sylvia could pull this thing off. Go Tim Sylvia… man, I don’t know if I can do this… no… I can, GO TIM SYLVIA!

(I never thought I’d ever say that)

  • Ken says:

I am not going to be surprised if this is the outcome of the rumored Elite purchase of HCF. Don’t rule it out.

  • kermit.01 says:

Id give my left nut for Big Tim to win that….and thats my favorite one.

  • I don’t get how EliteXC buying HCF affects the Fedor fight … tell me more!

  • Higgz says:

On Craplan’s blog he said Monte Cox had yet to confirm and you’ve got Sherdog saying Fedor has confirmed it. Doesn’t this sound familiar with Fedor’s management saying one thing and Monte Cox going, “Huh?”

Also, why do we say DOTTED LINE? Every contract I’ve ever signed has a straight solid black line.

  • godzillad says:

”Also, why do we say DOTTED LINE? Every contract I’ve ever signed has a straight solid black line.”

Maybe for Fedor the contracts have his name ‘written’ in dashes so he can easily trace over them to make his signature, like one of those cursive assignments you get in school.

  • Joon4s says:

I’d really like to see this happening, but I don’t get my hopes up. You’ll have to buy a horse to Fedor’s every realtive, give him $2 million and name a street after him before he signs.

  • Márcio says:

I’m sorry fightlinker… Fedor will submit Sylvia in about 17 seconds, your dream won’t come true.

  • Andy says:

Tim got submitted in what 10 seconds while on the ground with Nog? Sure Fedor won’t submit him that fast but unlike Nog he doesn’t have a problem with takedowns.

  • Beau says:

Can’t wait for this fight. Fedor back in action against a top heavyweight. Sylvia aint getting subbed in 16 seconds or whatever you dumbasses are saying. Sylvia’s takedown defense is pretty solid. You just know he’s gonna jab and if Fedor gets close its gonna be pushy against the cagey time. Just like he did to Brandon Vera. But, one big Fedor punch can set up the take down for some GnP. Should be an exciting fight and while you have to favor Fedor, when was the last time he fought someone who had a better chance of beating him? And don’t say cro cop, because he’s already been exposed.

  • Geoff says:

Personally I think the best outcome would be a glancing jab cutting open Fedor’s scar tissue and the fight being stopped.

  • In america they let you bleed like a stuck pig so long as the cut isn’t flopping around a tent door flap

  • cyph says:

Fedor does look like he bruise and cut easily. If Tim can do to Fedor what he did to Nog, it could potentially be a doctor stoppage. Fedor’s been cut easily before and if he pulls Sylvia down, Tim’ay should use the top secret US weapon: elbows!

  • jjdnb says:

I’m so sick of Fedor’s BS. I used to think he was the number one guy but after all this contract bs and hand picking opponents, i’m starting to think that he is more hype then substance.
Screw Fedor, Randy is the man!

  • kentyman says:

Exactly, that’s why I want Fedor to win and then fight Randy.

  • yourbrokendream says:

I hate to disappoint you all who cheer for Tim, Randy or UFC, and just say that no matter what you say, Fedor is the best out there! No fighter comes even close to him! Both Tim and Randy are loosers and not really top competition at all! UFC is also about to fall. Also, there is nothing else Price needs to prove, since three current UFC HW champions are former pride fighters (Spider Silva, Rampage Jackson, and Noguera). Randy is not a champion. It is obvious that he does not want to fight Noguera, because he has absolutely no chance against him! Stop being ignorant and just wake up to the truth!

  • advwild says:

Here are the 10 most likely outcomes of the fight
    1. Armbar. Fedor wins
    2. Armbar. Fedor wins
    3. Armbar. Fedor wins
    4. Armbar. Fedor wins
    5. Armbar. Fedor wins
    6. Armbar. Fedor wins
    7. Armbar. Fedor wins
    8. Armbar. Fedor wins
    9. Armbar. Fedor wins
    10. Armbar. Fedor wins

  • Jbird says:

Tim sylivia is goin to get Knocked the FUck ouT!!! that big ass guy has the weakest chin ive ever seen.. and if it aint by knockout bring the wrestling, fedor will dominate in that 2…

  • jerry says:

Everyone acts like Fedor has not ever faught anybody. How about Nog., Coleman, Randleman, Cro Cop, Mark Hunt and thats just a few. I’ve seen him nearly knocked out, almost submited, and in other precurious positions and he has still won. Nog. was the Pride Heavyweight champ. and now the interm UFC champ and Fedor has beaten him 3 times. Coleman was once the UFC champ and Fedor has beaten him twice. Fedor has faught many top ten fighters and many other great fighters and he has done it very modestly. He’s never been one to be arogant or boastfull. He seems to do it with an old school mentality of “hard work”, meaning the basics, (boxing, wrestling, and Judo). He is truely an athelete and somebody I would let my kids look up to for a role model and that is something this sport could use.

  • jerry says:

I forgot to add go Fedor! He will be victorious over Sylivia and destory Randy….

  • kentyman says:

“He is truely an athelete and somebody I would let my kids look up to for a role model and that is something this sport could use.”

What, Melvin Guillard not good enough?

  • Andrew says:

Should be a great fight. People are expecting Fedor to run right through Tim but I think Fedor will have some trouble and it will be competitive.
