Fight weekend in Montreal is always a great time to be a Canadian MMA fan. I’m a fan of the sport first and foremost and like this weekend just as much as the rest of you. First, I wanted to acknowledge all the loyal support I’ve received from everyone who reads the site. Even those of you who rip me a new one are fight fans and that is ultimately good for the sport. The nicknames still make me laugh, but I think I’ll still with “Dooms” for now. Off to my thoughts/predictions:
Anderson Silva (23-4) vs. Thales Leites (13-1) (Main Event)
I would like to say that Thales will pull off the upset but I just don’t see it happening. I don’t think Leites will be able to get Anderson to the ground, where I believe is his best chance of winning this will lie. Anderson will continue to dominate the middleweight division. He just moves different than anyone else out there and is on another level right now. Anderson Silva by TKO in round 2.
Chuck Liddell (21-6) vs. Mauricio Rua (17-3)
I think Chuck will take this one. I would love to see the Liddell of old come back with a nasty KO over Rua. Mauricio just hasn’t looked like the fighter he once was since he came over to the UFC. Unless the battle he had with Coleman made him realize he needs to step it up once again I see this fight ending in an echoing KO by chuck in the first frame.
Brian Stann (6-1) vs. Krzysztof Soszynski (16-8-1)
I am going with my boy Kryzystof on this one. Me and Soz go way back. We have fought twice with both of us walking away with a victory. He has been grinding away for years and getting better with each fight. He is a beast and I see this ending with a TKO in the 3rd round.
Luiz Cane (9-1) vs. Steve Cantwell (7-1)
I think Luiz will thunder through Steve and continue to be a force. He has crisp and accurate punches. I enjoy watching him fight and I think he will overwhelm Cantwell with a nasty flurry in the first round.
Cheick Kongo (23-4-1) vs. Antoni Hardonk (8-4)
I don’t know about this fight. For me it really is a coin toss. Both have looked solid in recent fights and I think they match up well for a classic heavy weight war. It will come down to who lands the first big blow. I will take Kongo on this one, just cause the loonie came up heads.
David Loiseau (18-8) vs. Ed Herman (14-6)
I think we will see the revival of Loiseau in this fight. I think he has worked out all the kinks that lead to him leaving the UFC and will now come back with a vengeance. If Herman manages to get it to the ground he may be able to squeak out a decision but I feel David will remind us all why everyone was once frightened of his elbows and end it in the 2nd with a KO.
Ryo Chonan (16-8) vs. TJ Grant (13-2)
I am excited to see TJ in the UFC. I have know him for a few years now and seen the skills he possess. I think TJ will pull off a slick submission and surprise Ryo in the first frame.
·Jason MacDonald (21-11) vs. Nate Quarry (16-3)
I didnt get the chance to train much with Jay for this fight but I know he has a solid game plan going in and is always dangerous to anyone in the UFC. As long as Jay manages to avoid Nates hands I believe he will finish this with another crafty submission on the ground.
