BE’s Kid Nate laments the potential death of DREAM after hearing the disappointing ratings for Friday’s show:
American fans may not care or may even celebrate a jingoistic triumph of the collapse of Japanese MMA, but those of us with memories remember that Japanese fans kept the sport alive and growing ten years ago when American authorities and cable companies nearly succeeded in driving the sport into the ground.
No jingo here, but if that was it (and after Dynamite!!, it could be)) then DREAM got what it deserved. I’ve seen third world countries led by ruthless despots that are better run than this stupid company.
They have absolutely no system to bring in new talent, no idea how to turn existing popularity into proper stardom, and they book the same crop of meh fighters in some of the dumbest fights in the history of the universe. They continuously sketch out on fighters, switch opponents and cancel fights last second, and don’t even pay people half the time. Calling them a sports organization is a pretty big stretch.
So why should we shed a tear for an organization like this? Better to pray the plug gets pulled now so maybe someone else can eventually step into the vacuum and do something right. Anything right. Because past some slick graphic design and video packages, DREAM sucks.
