Two days ago a press released was put out saying that Donald Trump would be making some kind of big announcement with Affliction. Originally I figured he was brought in to say his trademarked “You’re fired!” to the promotion after they inevitably blow all their money on their first event. But now we’re learning that not only is he announcing Andrei Arlovski’s participation, but that he’s been suckered into funding the company as well:
Trump will also announce that he has become an equity partner in the Affliction promotion. When asked what percentage of the organization he now owns, Mr. Cohen would only say “a significant amount.”
Finally, when asked if Trump’s relationship with Tito Ortiz would help bring the former UFC light heavyweight champion to Affliction, Cohen said:
“Everything that Donald Trump does is the biggest and the best and the “Afflcition: Banned” show will be just that.
Trump’s net worth is estimated at 3 billion dollars, which impresses me considering my net worth is somewhere around three hundred and fifty four dollars. It used to be more, but my XBox and DDR pad aren’t worth what they once were. So while I’m really really tempted to dismiss him as the douchebag he is and this partnership as smoke and mirrors, it may actually be a pretty big deal. The Donald has the money to keep Affliction throwing financially ruinous events until the end of time. Which is both an awesome and scary thought.
