Dana White is awesome at doublespeak

I’ve said it before: the Bush administration should hire Dana White because he’s fucking awesome at talking out both sides of his mouth. I don’t know anyone else who can say he’s never disrespected someone and then imply they’re cocksuckers in the same sentence. We’ve seen it with Randy, and we’ve seen it with Ken Shamrock:

“Now, I have never ever dissed Ken Shamrock,” White stated. “I actually always liked Ken and Ken and I always got along well. Where he’s coming up with this crazy (expletive) – he must be broke again.

“I’ve never said anything negative about Ken. So for Ken to come out of left field with psycho craziness and that I’ve lied to him and I’ve done this- I made Ken Shamrock a multi-millionaire again. I guarantee that didn’t happen over at the IFL.”

This is what I love about Dana White: he can take the fact that you worked for him and turn it around like he did you a favor. Did Ken Shamrock and Randy Couture make millions off their fights and appearances in the UFC? Fuck yeah. But how many freaking millions did the UFC make off of that shit?

The UFC isn’t *giving* these guys money. These guys work for the UFC. In exchange for that work, the UFC pays them money. There’s no fucking favors involved … if the UFC didn’t think they were going to make oodles of cash off these guys, they wouldn’t be paid like they were. And you better believe the UFC made money off them.

Simply put, the UFC should be respectful of the fighters they’re making money off of. And this is where there seems to be a huge goddamn disconnect between Dana White and half the fighters on his roster. It seems like every time a fighter hits the point where their name value is greater than the UFC’s, there’s problems. It makes me puke in my mouth to make the comparison, but it’s the whole Vince McMahon “I made you, you didn’t make me” attitude.

Randy Couture is getting an ass-raping in the court of public opinion because his numbers don’t add up. But as he initially said, it’s not really about the money, it’s about the respect. I don’t see why it’s so hard to look past what the UFC has done self-servingly to make more money off fighters, and ask “Does the UFC treat people well? Is Dana White a respectful individual?”

The only reason your given credence to Ken is because of the Randy situation. Randy said it wasn’t bout the money it was respect, but you show an athlete you respect him by paying him.?. That doesn’t make much sense. Ken has been a jerk for a few years now. You and me never had any problems fightlinker but if I was to start with you saying you talk all this shit and are very disrespectful (no not fightlinker, no way) and have dissed me I doubt you would not pop some sweet shit in turn. Just part of it.

Dana is very respectful, fuck you very much!

  • Michaelthebox says:

Because money is the absolute final sign of respect. Because of that, I have no qualms with Randy or anybody else for wanting more money. My issue is the fact that respect goes both ways, and the UFC respected Randy a ton to give him a shot at the title and as much marketing and support as they’ve shown him, considering he was 2-3 in his last 5 when they re-signed him. Actions are much, much louder than words. The UFC has respected him a ton, and Randy slapped them in the face.

You didn’t think through Dana’s argument, so you probably should have eased off on the “fighters first” populist rant.

The UFC has the ability to create stars. It commands enough PR firepower that it can take a guy with a terrible record (such as Ken) and no charisma and make him into a TV star multi-millionaire. Of course, in the process, they’ll make millions for themselves.

The thing is, they could do this with almost ANY guy. Instead of Ken, it could have been Royce, Tank, Bas, Coleman, Randleman or pretty much anyone else. Ken owes his millions to the UFC because they chose him. The UFC would have made its money with anybody else.

And before you say that nobody other than Shamrock would have gotten them the same amount of $$$, consider the present value of the Ken Shamrock investment: zero. If they chose to invest in someone younger, with a better record, and a brighter future, they would still be reaping the rewards of their investment.

  • Ken didn’t say peep till Dana released him from his contract and announced he was a washed up has been. This is classic Dana: he says shit like “I BITCHSLAPPED YOUR FUCKING AGENT, CUNTFACE” and then follows up with “I never disrespected you”.
With Ken, he never acknowledged the value that Ken as a celebrity and legend brought with him to the org. He handled the release with the tact of a high school bitch queen cutting her ex’s new girlfriend from the cheerleading squad.
With Randy, he can say “Randy’s great and a legend” as much as he wants, but when he’s talking about bitchslapping his agent and Randy going hollywood, that’s still disrespect.
Anyways, theres 1001 examples of Dana being a total shit. Remember how he was shitting on Wanderlei a few months back? How him and Pat Miletich used to be? How Dana continues to be with Josh Barnett? With Frank Shamrock? With Fedor?
“Telling it like it is” only goes so far … I try to ‘tell it like it is’, but I’m not these fucking guys’ boss. They don’t have to go through my approval to make a living. Everyone knows what a total son of a bitch Dana White has become … I’m fine with the asterix next to that saying he’s done great things for the sport, but it doesn’t give him carte blanche to be a douche.

I think it’s silly when adults say “dissed.”

  • Lifer says:

he sure has a wholesome way of referring to the TUF contestants. you gotta bitch slap these motherfuckers! you know the answer. come to jesus.

  • Tommy says:

At the end of the day we’re all men. Hell if I don’t talk a little shit to you, I must not like you. That’s what wop’s do. It’s not disrespectful in my eyes, even though I could be talking bout your momma. It’s business to downplay the people not in your company. What would you rather him say. W. Silva is a beast and the best there is at 205, you should buy their next ppv. Or Fedor is the greatest whoever lands him is a lucky organization, buy their ppvs? Frank Shamrock is a hell of a fighter but he is an a-hole so of course he’s gonna rub people wrong. Josh Barnett? He beat Randy on roids and still calls himself the UFC champ and talks down about them all, what class. There’s at least two sides to all things.

  • Tommy says:

I don’t get how Randy being a world class fighter makes him such a saint to people. He signed a contract and renigged on it. I don’t hear of the UFC not paying him or shorting him of monies they promised him. No one forced him to come out of retirement or sign with the UFC again. He did then changed his mind.

  • Xavier says:

Uh, Ken is washed up. So we blame Dana for telling the truth?

Fact is, Shamrock has made some crazy ass statements that the internet doesn’t want to call him on ’cause uh, Dana bad, anyone that talks bad about Dana good. Oh boy.

  • dandeman says:

You know I may even side more with Dana on this. Ken was a legend but his best years were lost in stink hole known as the WWF. It was Dana that brought him back and yeah Dana saw money potential in him. It is only understandable since he is running a business. However, Dana did give him money, he got paid well and received surgery to correct his knees. Nevertheless, Dana has a big mouth and when he sees something he hates he goes on a long winded insultive rant. Which he just did about Ken, but he is simply defending himself. He has the right to defend himself in the way he sees it. I think it is reasonable. If you have to go at it with all guns blazing to defend yourself and hurt other peoples feelings well so be it. Lifes a B**ch.

  • Everything is relative. Dana disrespects everyone so therefore he disrespects no one. Come on – get your heads out of your asses, people!!

  • Accomando says:

What do you all think your disposition would be if you closely resembled Uncle Fester of the Adam’s family?

He’s gotta beat everyone to the punch, you know.

  • smoogy says:

Two biggest cornerstones in the UFC’s successful modern era?

    UFC 40
    and
    The original TUF Finale.

The main event for both of those shows? Ken Shamrock. Like it or not, he has possibly been even more instrumental to the success of the UFC than Couture has been.

Dana could have avoided this headache if he had offered to buy Shammy out.

  • Terrence Halladay says:

dana is so full of shit! he said in that article:

“I have made Ken Shamrock a millionaire. Me and Randy Couture helped make each other money. Big (expletive) difference.””

so i guess kenny didn’t make dana any money?
not from helping keep Zuffa afloat with the UFC 40 big # of buys?
not from the very important TUF 1 finale?
not from the biggest TUF ratings by far for TUF 3?
not from the 775,000 # of PPV buys for Kenny-Tito II?
not from the biggest UFC ratings ever for Kenny-Tito III?
dana white is so full of shit his spit must be brown

  • marshal says:

Could we please remove the “at doublespeak” part from the post?

  • intenso says:

The TUF finale wasn’t a monumental event because Ken Shamrock got knocked out by Rich Franklin!

  • Terrence Halladay says:

hey dumbass the tuf finale was important for the UFC to get another contract from SPIKE TV and they put kenny in the main event. yes he got knocked out but he was still in the main event.

is that the only thing your going to address from this? :

  • Tommy says:

Well Terrance I’ll answer your questions for ya. #1 nope not really. #2 Ken wasn’t selling most of those tickets Tito was. I’m sure Ken sold 10-20 extra ppv’s though. #3 The highest rating during that finale happened during the fight between Griffin and Bonnar, as reported by Spike. Their fight made the splash not Shamerock getting dismantled by a middleweight in 2 minutes. #4 and 5 prove my point. Notice that the only time Ken sold big numbers was against Tito? Had nothing to do with Ken. There you go sir.
