Dana says “Never” to women in the UFC

I ain’t gonna lie, it sucks hearing something so overtly negative about WMMA from the guy who basically runs the sport of mixed martial arts. I’m not particularly worried about him keeping his word – Dana’s shown over and over again that never never really means never. And if the quality of the fighters and fights continue to improve as I’m sure they will, it’ll be impossible to ignore women’s MMA forever.

But it’s stuff like this could discourage the next generation of female fighters (the Olympic judokas, wrestlers, etc) from getting into MMA and pushing things along. That slows everything down, and that’s not good. Things are already progressing slower than they should with Strikeforce’s ham-fisted approach to it’s women’s divisions, and we also have to wait until at least next season to see if Bellator does more tournaments with chicks. At this point, Dana White’s comments are just another frustrating kick to the vagina.

As for all the retards that are happy about this news – yeah yeah, we get it: you don’t like women’s MMA. But there’s a large number of people who do, and hearing you cheer on the dismissal of an entire gender’s participation in the sport just makes us want to punch you in your ignorant fucking faces.

if this is allowed to happen, next thing know, they will let women do stuff other than cook and clean my house.

  • Grappo says:

What’s the upside in taking such a negative stance against women’s mma? To discredit the organizations that are currently trying to foster it (however half-assedly)?

When the subject was broached before I think he said something along the lines of ‘when it’s developed enough’ which is completely reasonable. This smirking dismissal is just fucking frustrating.

  • Blackula Jonez says:

If a wmma loving site like fightlinker can’t respect female mma enough to give it any props outside of a spank tank post, how are blatant detractors going to treat it.

As long as female fighters are seen as sex objects first, females second, non athletes third and not fighters at all, it will be held from legitimacy for years.

And praying for the return of Carano is hindering the sport too, if wmma is to survive it has to do it without her. Carano is a business woman trying to reap the maximum profit out of her limited time in the spotlight and mma is probably not even in her careers rear view mirror any more. Ginas behavior would not be acceptable if she was another swinging dick on the male side of the sport, but pretty people are held to different standards, right.

  • Grappo says:

I think you’re letting your hate of Spank Tanks cloud things a bit. FL does a good bit of non-spankable WMMA posts, especially considering the lack of much of anything to comment on at the present.

Fair enough I thought that was just going to take me to some old post about Karo.

  • Mixed Martial Adam says:

If Gina Carano was still fighting and a free agent Dana would be singing a different tune (at least in regards to her)

  • CRM_Stephen says:

Its years away from becoming something you can make money off. If/when it does, you’ll see WUFC or UFCW.

  • DJ ThunderElbows says:

He’s not interested in Carano – he’s interested in a pool of talent as good as the men’s that is large enough to support weight divisions over several years of fights.

Basically women are behind the men’s divisions and he’s not gonna put them alongside each other until they catch up on their own without shows like TUF to generate a field of prospects.

    It’s a tough situation.

  • Remco Pardoel says:

I appreciate WMMA, but there really aren’t enough elite level female fighters yet. Look at the trouble they’re having finding opponents for Cyborg. Can you imagine if GSP was matched up with some kid with 3 or 4 fights? Yet Nunes and Budd have been mentioned as possible opponents for Cyborg.

I don’t buy the argument that this will keep talented women from taking up the sport, either. The pioneers of MMA fought because they loved to fight, not because they ever thought they’d get rich at it. If a woman has a passion for combat sports, she will pursue that passion. If enough women feel that way, eventually there will be a deep enough talent pool to make the promotion of legit, high-level WMMA a reality.

  • iamphoenix says:

I need my women with makeup smeared on their face, high heels strapped on the feet and washing my dishes.

  • Symbul says:

The best division in MMA is what? SF’s 135lbs? That has how many women in it? Gina Carano is still the only star and we know how that’s going. That’s putting aside entirely that women’s sports in general are not popular and women fighting has huge prejudice going against it.

I mean, Dana’s stance isn’t the nicest in the world but I don’t blame him for it.

  • FiveBoltMain says:

DJ gets it. Now get your ass back to work on the My Forums button!!!

  • G Funk says:

Oh Butters, you’re a hopeless ‘my forums’ fan. Dj isn’t going to do it. He made his grand fashionably late re-entrance and give us the ol’ “taking this thing to new heights” pep speech and left us out to dry… It’s OK though, I’m numb from Coker and the Miami Dolphins org doing it to me for years anyway.

@ Black, I think you’re leaving out a big part of FL which is Roxy! This site is in constant support of WMMA and the news that we care to hear. Is non-sensual WMMA news a bit rare? Yes! Why? Because good WMMA right now is a rare commodity. This site doesn’t cover really small local shows, chit they don’t even cover Bellator, because most really don’t give a fuck! However, when SF does decide to put big WMMA fights together or when Coker fucks it all up, Ryan reports on it. And don’t bash the Spank Tank, how else can you get most of the male demographic into it if not through hot fighters? And it makes you sound really, gay. Though you’re black so I picture a head-snappin, hair-ironing these guys.

  • frickshun says:

G’s only racist b/c his parents brought him up that way.

I think Dana made this statement to get people the fuck off his back. There is nowhere near enough women to fill a division right now. Come back to him in 5 years & he may add it. Or at least exhume the corpse of WEC & call it “Women’s Extreme Cagefighting”.

  • G Funk says:

I’m not racist, I only like soft-core racist jokes! Now Butters, that;s a racist!

  • Predator8u says:

I personally dont enjoy WMMA because of the huge gap in skill between the two fighters. Due to Size, natural weight, sometime aggression. It always seems one FEMfighter just crushes the other and this makes me fell bad inside. The women quit and it is painful to watch.

WMMA nedds to develop a lot MORE
