Daily Wrapup for January 21st

Here’s the wrapup of yesterday’s news for you guys. Posting today will be spotty as I’m sick as a dog and going to the doctor’s this afternoon. Trust me when I say it’s killing me not being able to give you the coverage I’d like to. Now I know how Luke Thomas felt when he kept saying “I suck, sorry”. I suck … sorry.

Frank Shamrock’s running the show
Looks like Frank will be in charge of throwing the Ken vs Frank Shamrock fight. Word is he’s selling off pieces of the pie the same way boxing promoters often do with their shows. No word yet on how much of a disaster this will be if he can’t get anyone with any decent MMA experience to put together the production end of things. If I were another MMA company like EliteXC and Strikeforce, I’d shun this thing and not help a bit. It’s just not the kind of system you want being set up.

Big John poops on the UFC
A while back I tried to drum up support for the idea that Big John didn’t like the way the UFC was running things. Now he basically says that himself.

Jason MacDonald doesn’t like Joe Doerkson
Or rather, he doesn’t like the fact that he has to fight Joe again. Jason’s a cocky guy so I guess he doesn’t really understand the point of a rebound match. Losing three in a row is pretty much game over for Jason, so I’d say an easy fight is just what he needs right now. In the meantime, learn some goddamn standup skills, buddy.

Lambert’s loss was not a fluke
The guys at Bloody Elbow break down the end of Gouveia / Lambert and explain how Lambert threw away the fight with sloppy striking and posture. Somebody get this guy a boxing coach!

Mirko CroCop training
Here’s pictures of Mirko Crocop training hard. But I’m confused. Didn’t Dana White say that Crocop isn’t sure he still wants to fight?

“Big John poops on the UFC”

I’m tired of guys talking shit about the UFC after they leave. Can’t wait to see someone with enough balls to do while still under contract.

  • Higgz says:

    You mean like Tito?

“I’m tired of guys talking shit about the UFC after they leave. Can’t wait to see someone with enough balls to do while still under contract.”

    Randy is still under contract.

  • Higgz says:

Good call Blue. He is and might possibly be FOREVER!!!! Forrest also hates the UFC…I’m just kidding. I think he has their logo tattooed on his ass!

  • ilostmydog says:

When I first read it I thought that it said, “Big John poops in UFC,” and I found it funny that Sylvia wasn’t the only one. Too bad that wasn’t the story. :(

  • Mike Hunt says:

Fight Network lost their credentials to UFC events over the summer and have taken an anti-UFC slant ever since.

  • Lifer says:

    eat some lifefoods!

  • hankd says:

Like I’ve said along…BJM left because of Dana…end of story…

  • Mike_N says:

I liked the Bloody Elbow breakdown on Lambert’s wide punching, but we should all note that Gouveia only scored the knockout because his wild, technically unsound punch was faster than Lambert’s wild, technically unsound punch.

  • fightfan says:

A little late with this, but it has been bothering me.

I hope that UFC 81 is a better event in the sense of the gayness 80 contained.

Everything from fighters hugging to start rounds. Grown men balling like little girls when they lose. Men wearing furry velvet shirts. Fighters wearing skirts to the octagon and making sure to show it off after they win????? Oh and they ridiculis Hannibal Lecter like mask that screams gay that Grove wears. Now that he’s been owned 2 fights n a row, he will stop.

    Did I leave anything out???

  • Lifer says:

i think you forgot to mention how your rampant homophobia is a protective shield from your own gayness.

  • fightfan says:

    Sensitive butt pirates.

  • cyphron says:

Fightfan is unsure about his sexuality so he lashes out at anything he deems homo erotic.

  • Dru Down says:

Hey Mike Hunt- I’m having trouble finding information on the Fight Network’s credentials. Do you know why they were pulled, or can you point me to a story with additional info?

It seemed like L. Hunt was all ready to set up camp next to Iole on D.W’s ballsac, and all of a sudden I started seeing much tougher coverage of the UFC come out of the Fight Network. Was this related to their stance on Couture vs. the UFC?

  • MacDaddy says:

Anyone who joins a sport where you spend that much time hugging and sweating on each other is looking for something, no matter how they try to rationalize it… You can draw your own conclusions about the people that just like to watch….

  • Lifer says:

i know that i train in the hopes of having someones nuts on my neck.

  • Dangerfield says:

I wish the UFC would sign the guys on the cover of romance novels. Its getting harder and harder to nut to real fighters

  • Zuffa pulled Fight Network’s creds after Fight Network showed highlights of the Couture / Gonzaga fight during their ‘After the Bell’ show.

  • How bout this gem from Meltzer on Yahoo/MMA Junkie- “It would be a mistake to dismiss Lesnar as an over-muscled fake; he’s arguably the best all-around athlete of any heavyweight in UFC history. Certainly nobody can match his combination of strength, explosive power, and speed to go along with his 265-pound fighting weight.”

As a pro wrestling historian, and amateur wrestling follower and competitor since my early youth, I sincerely think this is the stupid thing he has ever said in reference to connections between all those sports.

I used to think Meltzer was rather insightful on the intangible link between the wrestling world and the fighting world. After that assessment I have completely lost all faith in him. Now I see why he’s on the same journalistic docket as Iole.

  • Mobb Deep says:

^^^ Wow, I totatlly agree with everything you said.

And yeah, UFC 80 was gay, with all those brutal knockouts and the bloodbath at the end. What a bunch of fags.

  • OK says:

No doubt Meltzer won’t be able to get any sleep tonight because Amy Robinson thinks he has no credibility.

  • Amy, wrote a post about that quote just now … spaced it out so you guys don’t have to read Brock-blogs back to back.

  • Jemaleddin says:

Too sick for ring girls. Sigh.

  • danaunclefesterwhite says:

Oh Wow. I would have never imagined that BJM had some beef with the way Zuffa ran their business. This only makes me like and respect BJM even more. 😀

  • andres says:

Aye wtf none this shit fucken matters all I want is some fucking fights I don’t give a fuck if bjm don’t like the ufc I WANT FUCKIN FIGHTS
Anyways seems like the ufc is goin to its lighter classes fuck the fatass heavyweights fuck them everybody who’s good in the heavys and clearly be light heavys and the ones who have talent but can’t hang with the monsters in the light heavies just drop down to middle wich I think is goin to be good with sakara hendo bisping wanderlei would be sick hahaha

I think I deserve to be a real jackal now

  • “No doubt Meltzer won’t be able to get any sleep tonight because Amy Robinson thinks he has no credibility”

I didn’t say I thought he has no credibilty, rather just the opposite. I thought he was a much too credible source to be making pretty loftly assessments such as that.

And though I’m sure Dave blocks out 99.9% of most pundits critism, but he’s always put a great emphasis on his relationships with his subscribers and circle of peers. I started subscribing to Dave’s newsletter 8 years ago. And I’ve actually been a multiple time contributor to his site. It’s not far fetched that my opinions would hold some stock with him.

  • OK says:

Well if that’s your history with the Observer, amy, then that makes it even sillier that you’d say “After that assessment I have completely lost all faith in him. Now I see why he’s on the same journalistic docket as Iole” based on one snippet from one column you disagree with.

  • I dunno, i’d say Amy did a little bit o’ schooling on that one. But on the other hand, I don’t agree with her statement re: Meltzer either. Tune in tommorow at 9am for the deal with that. Dun dun daaa!

  • ” based on one snippet from one column you disagree with.”

It the logic behind his conclusion is whar has made me lose faith in him. Someone as well versed on the subject as he is making a rather completely ridiculous statement such as that more than definately cause for questioning. Its not it was something small, its a pretty huge reach to say Lesnar is the best pure athlete ever in the UFC HW division.

He’s most definately a amazing athlete, but to say the best ever is a bit irresponible, especially for someone with Dave’s credentials.

  • “I used to think Meltzer was rather insightful on the intangible link between the wrestling world and the fighting world. After that assessment I have completely lost all faith in him.”

Also, as I kinda meant in regards to his MMA journalistic prowess, as was kinda inferred in the post.

As far as pro wrestling, I have no reason to doubt him there.

I’ve always kinda thought Dave should stick to wrestling news. He has an unfortunate tendency to compared the two worlds of MMA and pro wrestling much too often and way too closely. I’ve been of the opinion Dave should bring someone eles in to cover MMA for him, someone who does not cover or come from a pro wrestling background. I think that would be an really great assest to the Observer operation.
