CBS says “Ditch the urban bullshit”
Thank god! While CBS seems okay thus far with the plan to have Kimbo Slice headline their first card, it seems like they’re putting their foot down on the majority of the ‘thug life’ aspects of the show. I pray there was a clause in the deal that sees Jared Shaw launched into space to die as well.

Chonan gets offered a fight
You have to wonder if it was coincidence that the day after a bunch of blogs criticized the UFC for leaving a fighter like Chonan hanging, he gets a call to fight. Of course, I also wonder why his agent wasn’t harassing Joe Silva on a daily basis.

Melendez – Masvidal off the Strikeforce card
Allowing fighters to fight on other cards is like letting your starting lineup play russian roulette the night before the superbowl. FUCKING STUPID.

More info on the CBS-EliteXC deal
Here’s a bunch more details on the EliteXC/CBS television deal. I don’t know exactly what ‘straight time buy’ means, but it doesn’t sound that great. Still, a network TV deal is a network TV deal!

Brock Lesnar off London card
Looks like Dana White has decided to spread his butter a bit thinner across the bread that is UFC events. Originally they were talking about Brock being on the UFC85 card in London. Now it looks like he’ll be reappearing sometime in August.

Jeremy Horn ‘not under contract’
Pretty strange – typically when you’re a replacement fighter, the UFC gives you a deal where you get to come back with enough time to train properly. But Jeremy Horn says he doesn’t have a deal in place with the UFC. Hmmmmm.

  • Xavier says:

“The deal is believed to be a straight time buy, meaning EXC would receive no live rights fees.”

    Ha, so, so weak.

  • Damn its great to be on network tv but these mma organizations are so thirsty to get on free tv that they give away alot.

page four…..paragraph three……”CBS executives reserve the right to blowjobs from female competitors before each an every telecast…”

  • Johnwall says:

Wouldn’t that be awesome, though. “Every morning I get a blowjob/titfuck/fuck from a hot babe every time I go to work” : and have that in a contract, and the ladies dig it…man, it’s good to be Hugh Hefner!

  • Dangerfield says:

No caption under picture? I need a caption. Anything could have been happening before or after that picture was taken.

  • lionel says:

    Have you seen that ?!
    Viacheslav datsik v andrei arlovski

    The crazy guy won !!!!

  • Jemaleddin says:

Wait, so now Brock might have to fight somewhere that’ll drug test him? There goes his shot to win…

  • Fightlinker is Wrong says:

Yep, Ali Sonoma still looks like she wants to stab a bitch.

  • Mike_N says:

    Greatest picture ever.

  • Swedish guy says:

Who is the girl in the middle and where did that pic come from? I demand some answers.

  • Mike_N says:

That’s Rachelle Leah, Swede: the gold standard of UFC eye candy.

  • Swedish guy says:

What? Noo waaay, it doesn’t look like her at all.
I never found Leah mega hot but in this pic… man!
I guess your right though, now that you say it it kind of looks like her.

  • ilostmydog says:

Just a correction, Masvidal wasn’t fighting on ‘another card.’ He was fighting on a Strikeforce card and he’s going to miss another Strikeforce card because of that injury. This isn’t like the Sean Salmon getting KO’ed at Strikeforce and missing HDnet fights.

  • Ah shit, you’re right dude. I’ll make a correction. Good catch

  • selfdestructo says:

I know this is the wrong thread, but did anybody see Sakara at the weigh-ins? AS Fightlinker alluded to before about Jeremy Horn at UFC 81, don’t bet until you see the guy at the weigh-ins! This was Sakara’s first major weight cut in the UFC and he looked completely listless, and complete sucked dry in the midsection. Maybe he’s just sick, or that’s just how he is at weigh-ins, but he certainly looked like a guy that just spend 4 hours in the sauna and barely had the energy to stand.

  • selfdestructo says:

Also – a straight time buy – basically means EliteXC is being ZILCH for the honor of having their show on CBS. Any cash they make will be from sponsors and advertisers who will pay for the right to say, “This show is brought to by, INSERT BRAND AND TAGLINE HERE.”

I also read that EliteXC is responsible for selling some of the commercials. I wonder what happens if they can’t, do they have to pay CBS?

Is there no wonder why the UFC didn’t jump on this deal? And having another promotion take the first initial hit doesn’t hurt either. If EliteXC does well, then any MMA exposure is good exposure for the UFC, and it will help their bargaining power with other networks. If it goes badly, then EliteXC just loses money and perhaps we learn that mainstrean public was not ready for MMA.

  • Captain says:

If you read Caplan’s interview with Doug Deluca, Deluca seems to think the production is great and just what CBS wants. God, I hope he’s wrong and there’s going to be some overhauling of that shit.

  • Beau says:

selfdestructo, as I understand the staright time buy, you are correct, eliteXC will pay CBS. Basically, EliteXC is paying CBS for 2 hours of airtime on saturday nights. Then EliteXC gets to keep all the advertising money. So they need to sell enough adds to cover their costs and turn a profit. This is different then say football, where the network pays the NFL for the right to show a game and they keep the add money, or at least a substansial portion of it.
