Crocop says he didn’t sign with DREAM

It’s day two of as the Mirko turns and things have just taken an interesting turn. On Sunday, Kevin Iole reported that Mirko Crocop had told Dana White that he was leaving for DREAM, and the article was complete with several quotes from El Baldo Presidente himself implying Mirko was a dirty dishonorable bullshitting fucker.

Today we have the following news:

Speaking to a Croatian news site, Cro Cop said:

“I don’t know why White listened to the rumors instead of talking to me. I hoped that we will talk about a continuing of our collaboration, because the only obstacle was the long period between two fights that has been offered to me. I don’t want to sit at home so long and waiting that someone calls me for a fight.”

“However, I am grateful to Dana White for an opportunity to fight in Cologne and despite his harsh words, I don’t see the reason that we don’t prolong the contract.”

All of a sudden things get less clear. Who told Dana White that Crocop had signed with DREAM if it wasn’t Crocop? Was it this NikkanSports article from Japan that set him off? Did Dana just jumping the gun because he felt like the Mirko deal was turning sour? Or is Crocop just setting up ambiguity now to avoid looking like the bad guy? Why does this whole situation feel like a cross between a soap opera and a spy show?

*UPDATE* USA Today confirmed via email with DREAM’s US rep Mike Kogan that Crocop has in fact signed with the Japanese promotion. That sounds pretty definite … unless Kogan continues Japan’s fine tradition of hiring fucking morons to run things stateside. I’m going to try and wait until tomorrow before I make any more Crocop updates just so we can see what’s up when the dust settles.
