Chael Sonnen isn’t a fan of Inside MMA

Chael Sonnen was in fine Chael Sonnen form talking to Ariel Helwani yesterday at the UFC on FOX open workouts. From explaining why he wasn’t talking smack about Bisping to ripping Kenny Rice and Inside MMA a new one for some slight (real or imagined?), it’s 10 minutes of hyperbolic insanity from the guy who does it better than anyone else.

  • CAP says:

Chael in full form! Hard to hear him calling out a “liar” with some of the shit that spills out of his mouf. Pretty damn entertaining though.

  • frickshun says:

He has been cracking me up lately. The stuff he said on Junkie today was hghlarious:

“I’m here at the demand of FOX, not of Dana White,” he said. “FOX said, ‘We want this guy. Get him for us.’ I [took] that as a compliment. I was flattered when I heard that. I’ve got a lot respect for the network, especially the news channel. That was a big honor. When you get on a card like this in a high-profile fight and you’re in charge of selling the tickets and bringing in the viewership, it’s a compliment.”
In large part due to Sonnen, Saturday’s event – an offering from “Chael Sonnen Productions in conjunction with Zuffa,” according to the fighter – is a sellout.

I bet he does, they’re even better bullshitters than he is.

  • agentsmith says:

Holy christ, did he ever shit on Kenny Rice.

  • glassjawsh says:

at least he had enough sense to not lay into bas. nothing would make the masses turn on him quicker.

  • glassjawsh says:

and they really could change the name of inside mma to ‘bas rutten and that one asshole that makes everything awkward (not Tito)’

  • Grappo says:

As an avid watcher of Inside MMA, I have to say I agree with most of what Chael says.  Kenny Rice is terrible.  I don’t think he’s a LIAR, just that he’s fucking lazy, doesn’t do research before he speaks/writes, and probably isn’t the biggest fan of MMA.  The way he mispronounces and fumbles over the names of fighters (sometimes well known guys) shows me that he doesn’t really watch the sport, or take much pride in his job.  He’s painful to watch.  Bas is too, but at least he can be entertaining.

  • Letibleu says:

I love inside mma but sometimes kenny just makes fun of fighters. Bas does to but he was a fighter and earned his stripes where for kenny he has not earned the right. besides, Fightlinker is the place for that shit.I also always find he looks like a guy who has enternal bad breath.

  • Redping says:

kenny’s been around a while, I kinda find the guy entertaining. You could say similar things about Mike Goldberg but I don’t feel like insulting the guy about it. not the smartest guy in the world but you’ve gotta know at least a BIT if you’re attached at the hip with bas rutten.

And, I watched InsideMMA and I don’t remember what kenny said that was that bad. Bisping said he had one ball and Kenny was pretty suck-up to Bisping and trying to say he wasn’t a villain etc. Maybe praising his opponent is seen as attacking him? or did i miss a comment by kenny, I didn’t hear him mention roids or anything

  • DJ ThunderElbows says:

I cannot believe Redping, of all Jackals, is seriously analyzing pre-fight Chaeling.

  • Grappo says:

    @ Redping

Kenny is a holier than thou “is this bad for the sport?” type of douche, so it may be something he’s said about Chael in the past that’s gotten him riled up, not necessarily just something he said in that episode.  I don’t recall any specifics, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s finger-wagged at Chael for some of his antics before.

  • noiseless says:

this is how entertainers make money. thought i’d just throw that out there.

  • CAP says:

Used to watch the show a lot but not so much anymore. Mostly cuz I just don’t have the time and there is so much MMA content out to consume now. They used to be the only MMA show around.

Kenny has always come off like a meth head. They can go off on some crazy tangents but that’s expected with Bas.

  • frickshun says:

Kenny & Bas have the most uncomfortable banter. But I love when Bas breaks down the fights by rating the guys talent….& then explains it right to his face when that fighter is on the show. “Yeah, I’d give you a 3 in speed & a 1 in strength.”

  • iamphoenix says:

i don’t know what any of you guys are talking about. and just to keep the tradition alive i didn’t read your post redping. no need to reply to this mr ping, i won’t read that either.
