Out of all the fighters who were mismanaged by ProElite, there’s no one who got more of a shaft than Brett Rogers. After knocking out his first three opponents in the first round, he became an embarrassment to the promotion – the name everyone would bring up as the REAL heavyweight superstar of EliteXC while the promotion was doing it’s best with smoke and mirrors to build up Kimbo Slice (and to a lesser level, Bigfoot Silva).
Since May of 2008, Rogers hasn’t fought. While blogs wept for Scott Smith and Robbie Lawler having less money to ‘put presents under the Christmas tree’, no one really bothered to think about Rogers, who has now been sitting on the sidelines for nearly a year. Fortunately it looks like Strikeforce is working to fix this massive oversight by moving him up onto their April 11th card.
No contracts or opponents have been sorted yet so there’s still a chance things will fall through … considering the luck Rogers has had thus far that wouldn’t surprise me too much. But here’s hoping Brett gets a fight sooner rather than later. Since he only made $4000 a fight, I think he probably needs it more than everyone else.
