BJ Penn has big plans

BJ Penn looks into his future and sees two more belts before retirement:

“People might think it’s a long shot from this point out, but I really would like to be the world champ again at 170 pounds, you know, and I try to hold out as long as I can and when I get knocked off, because everyone’s going to get knocked off, I’d love to go back to 155 and win one more time. If I could do that, I can go to sleep at night. It would be much easier, you know, I don’t know any specific names or whoever the champion is at that time, you know. … I really want to be world champ again. You know, I was watching Soul Surfer movie the other day, the girl (Bethany Hamilton) who lost her arm… and if she can go out and keep surfing professionally, I can go get another world title.”

I dunno … BJ Penn always seems one unsatisfactory performance away from retiring on a whim during the post fight interview. Even after being the first guy not named GSP to handle Jon ‘Hump King’ Fitch, he still acted like a dog who’d shit the bed.

Yeah, that third round wasn’t pretty, but Jon Fitch is huge and BJ is tiny. Welterweight wasn’t an easy place for him to hang in 2006 and it’s only gotten bigger, rougher, and meaner over the past five years. Hell, lightweight is such a walk in the park that guys like Kenny Florian are dropping to 145. Maybe if BJ said he’d take a run at the featherweight belt I’d get excited, but we all know how much he loves his pineapples and kalua pig. I think he’d rather pull a Soul Surfer and lose an arm to a shark than go on a proper diet.

i dont see bj going down to 145 but i think that would be interesting

  • CAP says:

No shit he could probably make it. I like a motivated BJ Penn.

  • Blackula Jonez says:

if only he wasn’t a pampered rich kid maybe he would still be doing his strenght and conditioning with the marinovich’s. those guys may have been task masters but they produced one of the most dangerous versions of penn in his career

GSP vs Fitch, Penn vs Sanchez have to be 2 of the most one sided beatdowns in a title match i have seen, well that and the recent Bones vs Shogun fight.

  • CAP says:

^Agreed. With the results he got with those guys I don’t know why he isn’t working with them still.

  • Reverend Clint says:

    lazy like all hawaiians

  • glassjawsh says:

for the love of FUCK please no Penn-Fitch rematch! there are so many other interesting fights out there for BJ. don’t waste my favorite fighter’s remaining years on boring fights

  • kvelertak says:

    haha poor BJ.

Beating younger guys who are better isn’t the same as learning to do an activity without a limb.

    But gusto points to him.

  • G Funk says:

He’d rather be kickin it with a bunch of dudes in a jacuzzi.

  • frickshun says:

I love BJ. With my peen.
