Will the Boxing vs MMA war ever end? We recently got a little bit of comeuppance when Dana White tried to put Franklin-Belfort head to head with Mayweather-Marquez and got trounced. But let’s face it … for the most part MMA fans don’t really care about boxing either way all that much. We’re just kinda rubbernecking all the wreckage we see on the side of the combat sports highway.
But there really does seem to be a deep seeded resentment from boxing towards MMA. You’ll remember last month when boxing promoter Bob Arum called MMA a sport by skinheads for skinheads featuring guys ‘rolling around like homosexuals’, comments that were barely picked up by anyone outside the MMA world because hey … boxing people being racist and homophobic is barely newsworthy, it happens so much.
Now we’ve got Bernard Hopkins with these classy comments:
Hopkins told BoxingScene’s Bill Emes that grown men should not be watching MMA. He says MMA is not a sport, and compared it to a porno movie. According to Hopkins, he would feel “suspect” [possibly gay] if he bought a ticket to watch MMA.
“Everybody is different. I don’t want to watch two grown men wrestling with panties on. I’m from the hood, we don’t play that. To me, I’m not buying a ticket to watch two grown men with panties on, sweating, [with] nuts in their face. That’s not me. To compare that to boxing is ludicrous. It’s a porno. It’s an entertainment porno,” Hopkins told BoxingScene. “I’m not wrestling a guy with panties on and his nuts in my face, and they call that a sport”
He follows this up by saying guys that watch MMA together are obviously fags and so on … you get the idea. Because any time two men are touching in a horizontal position, it’s totally fucking gay. And not just for the fighters. Anyone watching becomes totally gay too. And if you weren’t before, you will be afterwards. Homo.
