If you missed the opening round of the “Summer Series” featherweight tournament at Bellator 46 last month, you missed some good scraps. Lucky for you, the interwebs can provide both the bite-sited recap vid above and the complete vids below:

Nazareno Malegarie def. Jacob Devree – Sub (Guillotine), 1:25 Rd3 – VID
Marlon Sandro def. Genair da Silva – Split Decision (Bullshit) – VID
Pat Curran def. Luis Palomino – Sub (Peruvian Necktie), 3:49 Rd3 – VID
The semi-finals drop tomorrow night at Bellator 47, and so I shall make the 1.5 hour trek north into hostile Chippewa territory to see my very first live MMA event at Casino Rama. It’s kinda odd that I’ve been watching this sport religiously for about 5 years now, yet have never actually been to a fight. In my defense, Ontario only legalized it this year, and then the first major event to come here was greedily gobbled up by scalpers like ” target=”_blank”>Precious gobbles chicken.
Much to my chagrin, the original main event of Joe Warren defending his featherweight title against Season 4 winner Patricio “Pitbull” Freire was postponed when Pitbull busted up his fist. Oh, how I was praying to see Warren get the shit kicked out of him again but actually stay down this time. Also irritating was the scrapping of UFC washout Ben Saunders from the card. The semi-finals promise to be entertaining though, with former Sengoku champ Marlon Sandro facing submission whiz Nazareno Malegarie, and Season 2 lightweight winner Pat Curran against Sengoku and Cage Rage vet Ronnie Mann. Also on the main card is a big-boy tilt between Season 3 heavyweight finalist (and one-and-done UFC loser) Neil Grove and TUF 10 also-ran Zak Jensen (subbed in the prelims by “Titties” Schoonover). But first, local boy Chris Horodecki tries to work his way back up to the big leagues versus Chris Saunders. Who? Good question!
Awesome stuff, right?! Alright not so much, but this is what I got to work with right now, so just let me enjoy it, okay? I figure Bellator’s a decent promotion to pop my cherry with, and there’s bushleagues popping up all over the place these days, so I’m sure this won’t be my last. For those of you not lucky enough to be there, the main card kicks off at 9PM EST on MTV2 in the States and The Score in Canada.
