Bellator Rumors

Over at MiddleEasy they shared some interesting rumors concerning Bellator, in fact 5 of them.

  • The G4 Deal was sunk by Directv’s decision to drop the channel.
  • They lose huge amounts of money each show, upwards of hundreds of thousands of dollars.
  • The people/fund backing them don’t like this at all even though they expected some loses off the bat.
  • Baby Bjorn has given much of his share of the company to investors to stall the collapse.
  • The big Eddie Alvarez vs Gilbert Melendez fight is Bjorns only hope of getting enough press to stall the backers from exiting stage right.

How mugh of this is true? I don’t know… we are called Fightlinker not FNN for a reason. If I learned anything from watching conspiracy shows it’s that there is always a bit of truth in every rumor.

  • glassjawsh says:

won’t miss bellator per se but i will miss the free fights

  • pewnt says:

Same here, maybe we can see Alvarez vs Melendez. I think that Coker will have to act fast, or Eddie will be in the UFC.

Lets hope that they just fold, rather than sell the promotion outright. It would be nice to see a bidding war for their top talent.

  • subo says:

“Their top talent” is like three guys, and Konrad is green as fuck. It’s nice that their backers are willing to take some losses before turning a profit, but I don’t think that whole “turning a profit” thing is anywhere close.

We linked to it – it MUST be true.

  • pewnt says:

It’s not a deep talent pool. Eddie is the only one that I can see on the main card of a North American UFC card for his first fight. Maybe Askren.

The guys I’m keeping my eye on:

    Hector Lombard
    Lyman Good
    Eddie Alvarez
    Toby Imada
    Ben Askren
    Dan Hornbuckle
    Pat Curran
    Joe Warren

**not saying they will be camps, they have just caught my attention at some point**

  • Blackula Jonez says:

all those guys are fighters worth caring about, they also were supportive of womens mma and with the WEC going away we can’t be too picky about the free mma we get. As far as Konrad being “green” that’s the whole concept behind belltor: giving prospects a stage to shine on…depending on whether the show gets preempted or not

I also would have put Joe Soto on that list instead of Pat Curran, I am also a fan of Ryan going from looking down on Middle Easy for posting rumors and now making a 180

Even if Bellator goes under, they did provide a blueprint for the modern mma tournament: one fight a month over the course of 3 months.

anybody who hates free weekly mma needs to follow another sport.

  • frickshun says:

I don’t know how but I really hope Bellator sticks around. They are a great suppliment to our MMA diet.

  • pewnt says:

    I don’t think I’ve seen a Soto fight. Google here I come.

“Even if Bellator goes under, they did provide a blueprint for the modern mma tournament: one fight a month over the course of 3 months.”

    So very true.

  • Reverend Clint says:

Bellator is really just your average barn fighting championship but with a euro trash sounding president

  • Symbul says:

Rebney puts on a brave face and talks it up but those rumors have gotten mighty persistent. In the latest interview I heard with him (think it was on Beatdown) he talked up their sponorships like they were handing out crazy money to them. I wasn’t buying it.

Less TV-worthy MMA is always bad though.

  • FiveBoltMain says:

I can’t say I will miss them because I never knew when my local FSN was going to show the card. I didn’t even bother watching this season.

  • Márcio says:

I hope they stick around for a while, they usually provide solid cards, even though the hw tornament was the worst one yet, I kinda expected it since it featured a bunch of fatties.

  • G Funk says:

“I am also a fan of Ryan going from looking down on Middle Easy for posting rumors and now making a 180”

    Ryan didn’t write this piece.

  • fightfan says:

I hope Bellator sticks around because they are a legit mma organization adn care about bringing up talent and developing fighters…unlike them shitholes at Showtime that ONLY care about bringing ratings. And they could care less HOW they get people to watch

  • Blackula Jonez says:

This should of been a mailbag question but what is “green” in mma?

Brock “Biggest draw in the sport of mma” Lesnar fought for the title in his 4th fight?

Konrad won his title in his seventh, Cain won in his ninth, Daniel Cormier (AKA’s wrestling coach and former Olympian) won titles in his 3rd and 4th fight. As far as heavyweights are concerned what is green or inexperienced? No other weight class in mma fast tracks fighters more than the 265’ers is it because a decent heavyweight is super fucking rare?

And sorry for the false accusation Ryan.
