(Shinya Aoki versus a cardboard cutout of JZ)
So it’s official: Shinya Aoki and JZ Calvancante will face off again at DREAM.2 on April 29th. They were originally supposed to fight on New Year’s Eve but that fight was scrapped due to an injury or JZ just being fat and out of shape, depending on who you believe. The fight was rescheduled for DREAM.1 as part of the opening round of DREAM’s lightweight tournament, and ended a minute or two into the fight with JZ dropping a few illegal elbows on Aoki’s neck.
Because the Japanese are kinda lax on rules, they decided to call that fight a No Contest, and we’ll be seeing a rematch to determine who moves forward to the next round of the tournament. Kinda wacky, but you can’t argue that it gives the fans the fight they want to see.
