Another douche misses weight

What the fuck is up with fighters lately? For the second weekend in a row we have a fighter not making weight … and not just missing it by a half pound or even a pound. But a FULL 4 fucking pounds over the weight class limit. The guilty party is none other than Thiago “Pitbull” Alves. You may remember him as the guy who was suspended 8 months for using a diuretic to help hit weight back in 2006.

Matt Hughes agreed to fight ‘at a catch weight of 174’, whatever the fuck that means. He had already cut down to 170, so I don’t really understand what a catchweight does other than legitimize the contest at Thiago’s fatty fat fat weight.

Something really has to be done here. This isn’t boxing where guys will call off a fight over guys not making weight. And I’m not saying that to call boxers pussies … guys have been killed in that sport by fighters who didn’t make weight. It’s to the point where you get the feeling some people are willing to take the heat and the fine in order to come into the fight bigger and fresher than their opponents, which really makes a mockery of the entire concept behind weight classes.

Dana White has always been a raging asshole regarding making weight, and I hope he puts the bitchslap on Thiago Alves hardcore for this. People that can’t make weight have no business in the UFC, let alone in the main card. Win or lose, I hope they bench him for a while and then turf him back to the dark matches so he learns his lesson.

  • jakey says:

    fat tits

  • jakey says:

    kimbo made weight

  • Beau says:

He actually only missed weight by 3 pounds. The welterweight limit is 171lbs.

  • Joon4s says:

That’s really stupid. Fighting is his job and part of it is cutting weight. If you can’t cut, go on a higher weight class or don’t fight.

  • DannyP72 says:

Alves is a fat shit sure but don’t get all melodramtic about it. He’s not gonna kill Matt Hughes because of an extra 4 pounds. Weight matters a whole lot less in MMA than boxing. This isn’t like Castillo Corrales 2

Having said that, fuck Thiago Alves

  • Omomatta says:

    Holy fuck Mr. Literal.

  • Niceguy says:

Thiago loses he should be out of the UFC. If he wins he should be suspended by Dana for a year. This is twice now with the first one being some diet drug or whatever. Fuck man, fight at 185 ya pussy.

  • Mark says:

Anyone else think we’ll see the first death in the octagon at UFC 85?

  • WW limit for non title fights is 171, sure. but that accounts for the “one pound over” rule, not for the weight that defines the class.

Maybe he was enjoying the family baking or banking or whatever too much.

    Mark: No.

  • ^ Who Eddie Sanchez?

  • el feo XIII says:

one word for this show – CURSED

  • x5BoltMainx says:

Don’t eat so many cookies you fat lard!!

  • he’s trying to blend in down in Brazil by having a fat ass.

  • Foojita says:

If this happens again they should make him fight Anderson.

You wanna weigh in like a middle weight how bout you fight one.

  • Nate says:

I liked pitbull, but this is such bullshit. Fat fuck piece of shit…

  • I wouldn’t be surprised if Thiago got hit with the same shit that BJ encountered in England in January, where it’s impossible to find bottled water out there that doesn’t contain salt or salt compounds in them.

  • koolpaw says:

will it be the last “curse” on UFC85?

London is NOT calling UFC !

  • Interesting theory, dynomite. I’m sure we’ll hear more about the situation after the weekend is over

  • Lifer says:

drinking water with no minerals leeches them from your body for digestion. it may help you cut weight but it is not healthy. celtic sun-dried sea salt, people.

  • Chris says:

If you struggle that hard to make the weight, or can only do it with diuretic’s. Then you should probably just move up to 185.

  • Captain says:

Jesus christ you blubbering vaginas are always comlaining about something. Just be happy he and Hughes agreed to take the fight on short notice to begin with.

  • Shane says:

It’s not an excuse as such, but Alves did sign up to this fight on late notice, so it’s not a complete Travis Lutter type situation.

  • Roxy says:

I hate the whole thing about cutting weight. Especially when I have been one of those people standing in the bathroom spitting into the sink. But the thing is…I did that. (But I’ll have you know, that I dieted hard for 140, weighed myself that morning at 137, was like YES, went to the weigh-ins and Smack Girl said, “Oh no, it’s 135! Better start running.”)

My mentality is, “If you don’t make weight, you don’t fight.” Therefore, you bust your @$$ JUST as much as training to MAKE the weight… If you know you’re going to fight like a month or two in advance, there’s really no excuse. You could just lose it and hang out at that weight, if worst comes to worst, right?

  • x5BoltMainx says:

Preach on sista!! He had 4-5 weeks notice. That’s plenty of time to cut down. Hell, old man Hughes did it in that time frame. Why can’t some one a decade younger than Hughes do the same thing?
Unless he’s trying to break Gina’s record of coming into fights over weight. He’s half way there.

  • fightfan says:

If you cant make weight, your penalty, in addition to fines, you should be FORCED to compete in the next higher weight class. that would really force people to be serious about making weight.

Therefore if Alves cant make 170, therefore his penalty should be your next fight(s) have to be at 185, since he didnt make weight

  • > People that can’t make weight have no business in > the UFC

What the fuck are you faggots bleating about?
You fight no matter the weight!
How much did Fedor outweight Lindland by? 40-45pds?

This cutting weight shit is for ballerinas and fruity bodybuilders. It has NOTHING to do with someones fighting skills.
The shit people do to cut the last bit of water is fucking scary and dramatically hightens the risk factor under high exertion. Whenever you play with water, you do that. I want fighters to be hydrated prior to a fight and not weaken their body the last week trying to flush everything.
This is a bullshit rule that was taken from boxing under the guise of protection. Fuck that, it has to do with the fact that you can market more 5-6 different champions than one.
Some homos want so much to be like boxing its fucking annoying.

There have always been weight mismatches in fighting and beasts like Sapp never killed anyone, no matter how much they outweight the other.

Weighins is a chance for cocksuckers to look at guys in their undies removing their clothing, talking behind their backs about how “big his butt is, its like really gross you know…”, its a chance for guys to shove things up their ass so they can lose a few more ounces of water, fucking with their system.

It does NOT make the show any better.

But it makes you douchebags for supporting something which doesnt help the fight and most likely hinders the physical capacities and even possiblity endangers the athletes.

  • Hickson Hracie says:

Mark Hunt beat the undefeated Wanderlei Silva by split decision a few years ago and outweighed him 80-90 pounds. It was an exciting fight and some feel Silva should have won.
It was probably only fair since Silva had fought a couple of smaller japanese fighter prior to this fight.

Kimbo was 25 pounds lighter than Thompson, should we have them in two different divisions so that someone doesnt get hurt?

  • JackalAss says:

Mna, you guys are fucking clueless, and completely missing thepoint. Can the fear of boxing comparison. Fuck boxing.
Ever heard of wrestling? Did they take weight classes in to protect fighters, take it from boxing? Fuck no. Weight classes are an attempt to level the playing field, to take any kind of advantage from size right out of the equation. This means that all that separates the combatants is your training, mentality, and genetics. It isolates the variables of a fight into styles, to determine the best wrestler or fighter. Who has the best skills?

You see it’s impact all the time. Franklin steps down from 205, owns middleweight. Penn drops from 170 to 155, and dominates.

    Plus, it means no excuses.

    “He was heavier than me.”
“He’s just bigger, and has more muscle, and controlled me.”

Fuck that, no excuses, no complaining.

That being said, I enjoy the drama that is created when a smaller man uses speed, skill and strategy to beat a much larger fighter. That’s why heavyweight is such an exciting division, and why I miss open weight Grand Prix’s. I’ve always trained with bigger guys. sucks to be 155lbs. sometimes. It’s inspiring seeing someone conquer adverse situations.

Hughes is a professional. That seems to be the difference. Alves just likes partying too much, probably didn’t want to do a trial cut to make sure he can makes weight. 3 pounds? That’s fucking unreal. cutting weight sucks, but you gotta do it. No matter what.

  • ttt says:

wow Guy LaFleur, you go apeshit on cutting weight yet offer no recommendations.
“How much did Fedor outweight Lindland by? 40-45pds?”
i hate when this is cited as an example. the answer is 17.5 which isn’t a big deal in the heavyweight division.

  • Asa says:

    Amen JackalAss, amen.
