Andy Hug: The real king of pornstaches

Everyone likes to say that Steve Mazzagatti is the king of pornstaches. But I’d like to expose you guys to the REAL king of pornstaches … Andy Hug. Who the fuck is that? Andy is perhaps one of the coolest K1 kickboxers in the history of the sport. I was up in Toronto last night at Lifer’s place eating Lifefood and smokin doobs and we popped in a History of K1 video, and Hug was in it half the time, either kicking people in the eye socket or getting himself executed. It was nothing short of spectacular. And now it is my mission to educate you all on the awesomeness that is Andy “Pornstache” Hug.

  • Swedish guy says:

Yep, I was a huge fan of his a few years ago. Too bad he fell victim to the plague that is cancer. Those axekicks, man, those axekicks…

  • I know, every time he dropped one he kinda looked sorry for owning his opponent so badly.

  • FRANKIE says:

And some idiot MMA fans still say karate is useless.

  • Lifer says:

    how was my nut milk?

  • Actually, the nut milk was the best of all the stuff.

  • Gaston says:

He nearly split someone in two. Thoose kicks will put your collarbone to the test. Drink lots of milk

  • Gaston says:

Allright, surrender your stasche mazzagatti. There can be only one

  • ajadoniz says:

he died of cancer? what an anti-climactic way to die.

  • jackal-shitstain says:

Not a bad porno name to go along with the stache.

  • Cancer is the kick you never see coming

  • Gaston says:

You should check out his homepage

  • Plague says:

And I thought Aerts had a good highlight reel. I must get these dvd’s, what were they?

  • Tertio says:

    Hes got an awesome axekick.

  • Xavier says:

Mazzagatti still has a better ‘stache. Hug doesn’t have enough of a ‘stache. Volume matters.

Mazzagatti could walk onto the set of Reno 911 and get immediately hired. This tool couldn’t.

  • Geoffr0y says:

Man, 1:33 might be my new favorite all time KO. That was sweet with a capitol good night.

  • Chuck says:

Andy Hug was the fucking man. Him and Mike Bernardo, K1 at its finest.

  • Bernardo is a beast … and having the same name as the famous canadian rapist makes him seem even more hardcore. Of course, what does that say about that new UFC guy Samy Shaivo

  • Wu Tang says:

    Samy Schiavo

  • islandguy says:

Awesome kicks. Thanks for posting that.

  • fightfan says:

Damn, he REPEATEDLT KO’d people with those axe kicks!! I didnt think they were meant to do KO kind of damage….AT least when Mirko throws them at Mark Hunt’s fat head, the effect is nothing more than funny.

  • Thonas says:

Wow never heard of the guy but seems like he was entertaining

  • fightfan says:

    POST 15

I didnt hear anyone yell “TIMBER…….” And to comment on cancer.

It is a fact that EVERYONE in the world will be affected by cancer in their lifetime, whether it is directly or knowing someone suffering from the disease

  • Wow. The guy beat CroCop and he nailed him with an Axe kick….

He is a perfect demonstration of why what worked for people at that time (late 60s-93/karate/kung fu) was just as dangerous as what works now. Unless you lived in a wrestling state you didn’t have to worry too much about being on the ground.

  • I love how the videos from 2000 look like they’re from 1984

  • I was going to put a note that I didn’t mean that Hug’s fights were from the 80s, etc., to protect myself. (mainly from asa licker)….
But his style of fighting looks a lot like what martial artists depended on before MMA became popular….

  • fightfan says:

    POST 23……

Nice Link. Yeah axe kicks are cool as hell to watch. They are not very practical in mma matches, but in kickboxing matches they are used much more.

There is no fear of being taken down so they are thrown much much more. Still is very dificult to KO someone with an axe kick……Although he did rock Cro Cop pretty good with the old axe kick!!!!

  • It’s crazy, he hit him twice with those things. Me and Lifer saw another fight where he hit the guy twice in a row with them and the second time the guy just cringed like he knew what was up and went down

  • fightfan says:

I love watching them. It is like a slap in the face you can do nothing about. You know it is coming but cant stop it. And it is hilarious to watch!!!

  • ttt says:

bernardo is cool? you haven’t watched the Takada Bernardo fight … it makes the eddie sanchez fight look like fight of the night

  • I only saw highlights from his career … so they showed Barnardo kicking everyone’s ass. He looked pretty hardcore

  • ajadoniz says:

i’ve never been on a receiving end of an axe kick, but it seems his opponents think it’s a head kick and simply tilt left or right but then BAM! fuck yo shit bitches, i got you on the way down!

  • Chuck says:

I was actually gonna post the Bernardo – Takada fight saying “OMG MOST FURIOUS BATTLE EVAR” but shit, I bet Bernardo got a fat paycheck from that fight, and his family didn’t get murdered by the Yakuza, so win-win… except for the fans, we all lose.

I love how after they go 15 minutes of doing NOTHING they embrace like they were in a war.

Takada has some seriously worked fights.. i’m sure everyone has seen Takada – Coleman fight, i just tried to find it but it looks like the links are dead. Coleman has side control at one point and jumps back into Takada’s guard to get submitted. Bas and Mauro have no idea why he jumps back into his guard and you can tell they think it’s BS.

  • Royal "God of Puroresu" Burnell says:

    Hug Nutter.

  • P W says:

Andy Hug is still a big name in Japan, probably the most famous K1 fighter ever (I thought about writing that for a long time, but I will stand by my word).

Most awesome Andy Hug KO ever? His spinning heel kick (!) against Mike Bernardo, as seen in the very beginning of this clip:

    Coolest KO ever.

  • operator says:

No wonder they call it the axe kicks it literally looks like he’s chopping them down. Then he demonstrates why downward elbows are banned in the UFC.

  • Smitler says:

You can spot early UFC competitor Pat Smith getting a kicking in that vid too.
