Anderson Silva is a PROBLEM

Jesus shit. Considering everything going on in the world today, you’d think MMA would be able to get it together and produce some worthwhile news to write about. Venezuela and Columbia are on the verge of war, the gays might be one step closer to destroying America, and it’s do or die time for Hillary Clinton. Yet it seems like the only thing anyone in MMA can talk about right now is how fucking dominant Anderson Silva is.

Sam Caplan says it best: It’s not that the UFC’s middleweight division sucks … it’s just that all of the fighters suck compared to Anderson Silva. If Anderson wasn’t around, it’d probably be a very exciting time in that division, with Okami, Hendo, Franklin, Lutter, and Marquardt banging it out amongst themselves for supremacy.

Whoever’s on the top of that pile would still be in reach of the 10 or so mid-level fighters if they got on a hot streak. It wouldn’t be like we were saying in The Low Blow radio show last night where half the middleweight fighters might as well just give up because they’re NEVER going to even come close to beating Anderson Silva.

Of course, I do believe we were all saying this about Georges St Pierre back in the day too, and look what happened to him at the hands of Matt Serra. It only takes one bad fight to make people realize you’re a mortal. And while Hendo wasn’t that bad fight, he was a bad round. And that’s a start, I guess!

hands off the cock and FOCUS!

Silva mentioned it before that he wants to hold belts in more than one weight class. Look for his camp to make a statement that he wants to move up to LHW in the near future.

You guys think he’d be able to cut to 170?

  • Apparently he’s had fights at 170, but who knows if he can still hit it.As you get older it’s harder to cut weight

With Shogun out of the fight against Chuck and every other top LHW set to fight in the next couple of months can a Silva/Chuck fight be the answer? Dana mentioned “exciting things” for Silva in the press conference.

  • Lifer says:

The only thing he could perform in 185 that would be exciting to me now would be a 2on1.

  • Shogun’s out? I knew something was fishy about the whole “UFC85: Chuck Liddell” thing. I’m like … normally don’t they say who he’s fighting?

  • dignan says:

Maybe Silva can take his fight on the condition he doesn’t train for it…just maintains his weight.

Sounds ridiculous but maybe it would even things out a bit, or make him look even better.

Anderson was a top 10 ranked Welterweight in the early part of the decade. He was the original opponent for Carlos Newton to defend the title against at UFC 34, but had to pull out because of visa issues. In his place stepped some dude named Matt Hughes, and the rest is history.

  • wow. That’s a cool fun fact.

  • Ross says:

When watching the UFC shows from that time last year I had noticed they included Silva in their top five welterweight contenders. Had never heard he was scheduled to fight Newton though.

I’d like to see a site that has a list of UFC/PRIDE fights that were scrapped for whatever reason. Vovchanchyn missing UFC 11 because of Visa issues and Serra’s fight at PRIDE 9 being scrapped because his opponent got burnt by the pyro during his entrance are two of the other interesting ones I’ve heard about.

I remember the debate a couple years back when Franklin was the MW king. Many many comparison with Henderson. In 2 years, he demolished both.

I think there are other competitive fights for Silva, though not in the UFC, so not likely it’s happening. Ninja Rua, Robbie Lawler, Frank Shamrock. Should hell freeze over and these fights happen, I think he wins them all inside the distance.

    nice little tidbit, godzillad

  • godzillad says:

Yeah, PRIDE had ”better” production values but at least they didn’t blow their fighters up.

Are you fucking insane? Silva will decapitate them all.
