Dana White was talking the talk regarding finding a decent opponent for Anderson Silva, and now he’s proved that he’s walking the walk by canceling a Paulo Thiago / Forrest Griffin fight in exchange for Anderson vs Forrest:
The Ultimate Fighting Championship will apparently scrap a UFC 101 bout between former UFC light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin (16-5 MMA, 7-3 UFC) and top contender Thiago Silva (13-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) in favor of a Griffin vs. Anderson Silva (24-4 MMA, 9-0 UFC) match-up.
Sources close to the organization today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) a meeting was held last week to discuss the Anderson Silva vs. Griffin bout and that verbal agreements may now be in place.
While Forrest Griffin may not be an epic superfight name like Georges or Chuck or Wanderlei, he’s still one of the UFC’s fan favorites and I’m surprised that the UFC is willing to feed him to Anderson Silva. For the past year they’ve been booking him up with the leftover scraps from the middleweight and light heavyweight division. Patrick Cote? Why not. A light heavyweight fight? James Irvin isn’t doing anything. Demian Maia? Nah, we want to nurture him a bit more, so how about Thales Leites instead?
It just seems like Joe Silva doesn’t even take Anderson Silva into consideration when he books people up becaus Silva kept getting paired with whoever wasn’t busy fighting others. Even this time, the UFC had to CANCEL another fight so they’d have a good fight for Silva.
