Anderson Silva doesn’t like Yushin Okami

Anderson Silva seems like a pretty laid back guy. Easy to smile and joke around, he’s more likely to show you some dance moves than get in your face. Even in fights, he usually kept cool and collected. That wasn’t so much the case in the Dan Henderson fight … you got the feeling that Anderson Silva came into that fight pissed off, that the shit Dan Henderson was saying had gotten back to Silva and he wasn’t happy about it.

After the end of a first round where Hendo had managed to hold Silva down and play bonga on his head for a minute or two, Silva looked positively pissed off, speaking angrily to his corner. And then he went back into the fight and took that anger out on poor Hendo, knocking him silly and then choking him out. “No disrespect to Dan” his translator said after the fight. “But the only other real champion that Anderson has faced is Rich Franklin.” Yeah … no disrespect to Dan at all!

And as far as I know, there wasn’t even any real heat between those two coming into that fight. Now we have a fight between Silva and Okami which hasn’t even been announced and there’s already some bad blood appearing, at least on Anderson Silva’s side. Back in 2006 he lost a fight against Okami due to an illegal kick, which Anderson seems to think is bullshit:

“I feel it was a cheap, cowardly way of winning,” a pointed Silva says more than two years after the scrap. “People that were there saw that he was in the condition to come back and keep fighting, and he didn’t.”

Silva says he doesn’t “really think much of anything of Okami,” but the Brazilian was more poised when stuck under Henderson than he is when discussing the Japanese fighter.

“It wasn’t really a fight,” Silva describes the disqualification loss before adding that he doesn’t want to talk about it anymore.

One thing is for sure: Okami better bring his A game with him, otherwise he’s liable to be shipped back to Japan in a freakin’ body bag. Most fights involving Anderson Silva have a special kind of anticipation of brutal violence. For this one, I’m actually worried for Okami more than I was for Rich Franklin the second time around.

  • Accomando says:

Vicious kick, and Silva really needed that TUF-ref there to keep him from killing Okami.

  • Mike_N says:

Ow. I fear for Okami’s life.

  • stink47 says:

He didn’t touch gloves at the start with Dan. Think Dan was talking too much before about how he was going to knock Anderson’s chin into the 19th row or whatever…. And that ain’t cool

  • Captain says:

I’ve always wondered why Anderson was so heated that the ref had to hold him back from killing Okami but have never seen an official response. Hasn’t anybody ever asked him that in an interview before?

Also, funny to watch this again and notice the slight difference in style from then to now. Anderson seems more patient and methodical now. A little less bounce in his step but now more knuckles, knees and kicks for ya grill.

  • Beau says:

That kick was pretty fucking vicious. Ive never seen anything like it. They call it an illegal upkick but Okami was in his full guard and he side kicked him in the face. Ridiculous. Okami looked pretty fucked up since he caught it right on the chin. I dont think he could have continued without having his face rearranged with a quickness.

  • fightfan says:

That was such a bullshit call. The rule is really meant to protect fighters that are in a fetal like position, hurting on the ground with both knees on the ground. There it is meant from someone winding up, FROM A STANDING POSITION(not lying flat on their back)and knocking off someone’s head.

I think it is very very difficult to even do what Silva did, WHILE LYING ON HIS BACK!!!! Maybe Okami did fake it because after that he was scared that he may actually die that night. Just think about it, NO ONE has ever been knocked out from an upkick, WHILE they are throwing ALL THEIR WEIGHT down on opponent attempting a punch.

That definitely shoudl not of been a loss

  • fightfan says:

Also, Silva was pissed and made the comment about Franklin because all Hendo did for 3 minutes is lie on top on Silva and baby tap his head while trying to cover his mouth, preventing him from breathing.

From my translation between rounds, Silva said….If that toothless faggot tries any of that pussy shit again this round I will knock any remaining teeth he hs in his head into the 19 th row and choke him out Babalu style!

  • Michael says:

Every single person I’ve shown that fight to said, “that’s illegal!?” and I had to explain to them that technically Okami is a grounded fighter. No one with fresh eyes ever buys it.

  • Zurich says:

Okami and Silva look all Starvin’ Marvin at 175lbs… whereas at 185lbs they’re beasts.

  • MacDaddy says:

Wow he was *really* pissed about something, wasn’t he? I watched to see if Okami did something dirty that would have pissed him off and I didn’t see anything. Why so angry Anderson?

  • He felt that Okami chose the DQ win rather than continue to fight … kinda like the whole Frank / Renzo fight

  • x5BoltMainx says:

Silva is one dude you don’t want to piss off because he’ll rip your head off & skull f*ck you 😛

  • Zheroen says:

fightfan, ever seen Renzo Gracie vs Oleg Taktarov? That’s a KO from an upkick. Renzo was on his back, trying to pull guard, Oleg tried to dive in with a punch and got his bell rung by a stiff upkick, slowly fell backwards to the ground. One immediate punch from Renzo later and Oleg didn’t remember where he was or what he was doing.

  • RL Dookiefuck says:

Unlike Frank/Renzo, Anderson wasn’t exploiting a retarded 15 second stand up rule by stalling every time anything coming close to resembling grappling took place, and then having the balls to call the other guy out for not fighting.
