Affliction sans financial concerns

For some reason, Donald Trump’s involvement with Affliction has calmed my concerns regarding their first show. Before, I was soured by the idea that no matter how awesome the first show was, they’d lose so much money that it’d be the only one we got to see. Now that I know that they have enough money to burn several   massive piles of cash, I’m actually looking to seeing more cards from them.

Which is great, because although there’s a lot of big names at their first event, it is kinda a shame they’re not always fighting eachother. But I understand how it is – you want to establish your stars before having them face off. Now that I’m no longer expecting Affliction to fold after one show, I’m comfortable waiting for things to evolve.

Here’s the card thus far, just to remind y’all of how it looks:

Bouts Scheduled to Air on Pay-Per-View:
-Fedor Emelianenko vs. Tim Sylvia
-Josh Barnett   vs. Pedro Rizzo
-Matt Lindland vs. Fabio Negao
-Renato “Babalu” Sobral vs. Mike Whitehead
-Ben Rothwell vs. Andre Arlovski

Bouts Scheduled to Air on Fox Sports Net:
-Aleksander Emelianenko vs. Paul Buentello
-Trenell “Savant” Young vs. Mark Hominick

Preliminary Bouts:
-Antonio Rogerio Nogueira vs. Vernon “Tiger” White
-Justin Levens vs. Ray Lazama
-Mike Pyle vs. Brett Cooper
-J.J. Ambrose vs. Patrick Speight

  • You know Trump isn’t exactly financial stable.

  • Hattori Hanzo Gracie says:

    Was that Michael Buffer??

  • Yeah, i thought it kinda took you out of that hardcore vibe the rest of the video puts you into

  • machinegunfunk says:

im torn i want it to work because it should be awesome but i just hate affliction with a passion

When little nog is in a friggin PRELIM, you know it has to be pretty stacked.

  • Elfenstein says:

amazing looking card … this will be a blast =)

  • Gong says:

    Two things:
    – That PPV should be available up in the Canadia right?
    – Someone needs to make a gif of Arlovski punching fire. It’s kinda funny.

  • lol at Whitehead headbutt through glass and Arlo shadow boxing fire

  • Shane says:

Trump will not give a cent to help Affliction in any way.

Affliction are essentially paying Trump in the form of possible profits and a share in the company in exchange for the positive press, reputation and contacts a company will gain by having Trump as their spokesperson.

This is how Trump operates regarding most of his real estate portfolio as well.

Affliciton better hope having Trump as their spokesperson will gain them a television deal worth more than the UFC’s and PPV buyrates higher than UFC’s otherwise they’re going the same way as Bodog and the IFL…

  • Hmm, very very very good point Shane.

  • natureboy says:

Buffer is not a voice over guy. They shoulda got the movie voice guy. “In a world…”

  • RL Dookiefuck says:

    it’s a pretty awesome card.

  • cyph says:

I’m surprised nobody has picked up Travis Wiuff yet. He knocked out Iron Jaw Fujita for god’s sake!

  • jakey says:

If fabricio verdum is the future of the ufc heavyweight division that division is “ver-doomed”. I can’t believe that guy’s even a contender – not only is he fuckin boring but arlovski beat him and he isn’t even the best heavyweight on the affliction card.

  • Hickson Hracie says:

Is Affliction going to be doing Open Class Grand Prix style events?
Seems like they got the market covered in HW, so just call it open class and claim that its for the best fighters, no matter the weight.

WEC has the fluff weights, UFC has the middle of the pack and Afflliction could go open weight class meaning HW and a few random LHW here and there.

  • Eric says:

Looks like a really terrific card. Those who say that they aren’t watching this aren’t true MMA fans. It would be nice to see Wiuff and Ortiz on the next card.

  • Beau says:

So assuming all the favorites win then the next fight card could be:

    Fedor v Barnett
    Arlovski v Aleks
    Babalu v Nogueira

I’d like to see all those fights.
