Ace vs Axe Murderer, Part Deux

UFC 146 had the dubious distinction of having every single fight on it’s main card change, and now the game of MMA musical chairs continues. UFC 147 was in need of a someone to face Wanderlei Silva and now the UFC has cannibalized the Rich Franklin / Cung Le fight from UFC 148 to drop Rich into the replacement seat. This is Rich’s second TUF coach fight rescue and second fight with Wanderlei Silva, the first one being a hotly contested decision win at UFC 99. So is this still going to be a five round fight?

Cung Le will now face off against Canadian slugger Patrick Cote, who returns to the UFC on a four fight winning streak (we’ll ignore his knockout victories over me). He’d also been working the twitter fan campaign angle as well and while those haven’t been all that effective lately, out of sight is out of mind and now Pat gets to ride the Gypsy Curse back into the big show.

Speaking of the Gypsy Curse working out for someone, Chad Griggs is out of his August 4th death sentence with Phil Davis for undisclosed reasons. Chad got choked out quick in his first post-Strikeforce UFC bout against Travis Browne, and that somehow earned him a spot against a rising star that is coming off a title eliminator loss.

It was a total soft rebound fight for Phil Davis and hopefully a clear signal to Chad Griggs that he needs a better agent if he wants to survive 2012 in the UFC. He’s replaced by Brazilian prospect Wagner Prado, who has an 8-0 record with 6 first round KOs. Lookit that, a fight that actually got better as a result of an injury!

Last up, Rick Story has yet another opponent for his fight in June. Rich Attonito was his original opponent, followed by Papy Abedi, and now Papy is out and Jardine is in. No, not Keith Jardine (sorry, just had to scare you with that prospect) but 9-1 UFC newcomer Brock ‘the Machine’ Jardine.
