A funny thing happened on the way to Japan…

“What, me worry?”

Oh hey, you’ll never guess what happened to the second bracket of Strikeforce’s heavyweight grand prix.  In a development that should surprise no one, Sherdog reports that Strikeforce has been forced to push the rest of the tourney quarterfinals (Ubereem/Werdum and Barnett/Rogers) off of their pseudo-planned April 9th card.  That show will now go down in California, and while it’s not specifically stated, I guess we can assume that the idea of holding it in conveniently commission-less Japan fell through, so Scott Coker was forced to return to his old stomping grounds.  Which of course means Josh Barnett and his steroid-ridden moobs have to stay home, which of course means they might as well postpone the whole bracket until they can come up with a Plan B.

This is still a rumor at this point, so there’s no word on how long the tourney will be delayed.  And at least one journalist is already questioning if this tale is true to begin with, but since Coker won’t return his calls and the rest of the SF staff are apparently left shrugging their shoulders, it doesn’t look good.

The word is that the rumored Melendez/Kawajiri lightweight title fight will step up to fill the void, along with welterweight champ Nick Diaz versus Question Mark.  Remember when I mused aloud whether SF would promote Tyron Woodley up from the Challengers shows if Paul Daley lost his outsourced title eliminator against Yuya Shirai this weekend?  Probably not, but just roll with me here.  Well I must be a low-level psychic, because Cesar Gracie told Sherdog that Woodley is indeed being considered to challenge Diaz in case Daley either loses the Shirai fight, or wins but then turns down Diaz due to short notice.  April 9th would be exactly 6 weeks from this weekend, and if Jon Jones can handle that, then I submit that Daley would be a wanker to not suck it up too.

As for the man directly responsible for this whole shit-show, Barnett basically pulled the “no comment” defense, and said that he would simply adjust his schedule to make sure he’ll be at peak doughy physical condition to throw down with Brett Rogers, if and when that actually happens.  I hereby pray to Xenu that possibly-roided Ubereem will one day utterly fucking crush Barnett’s definitely-roided head flat in the semi-finals as karmic revenge for this bullshit.  A man can dream, can’t he?

  • drewster55 says:

my crystal ball tels that the whole tournament is going to get fucked up because of barnett

who gives a fuck about this multi-roid using loser – how many chances does this guy get?

just replace him with fedor and get it over with

  • Letibleu says:

Hire Tonya Harding to smash Barnett in the tit repeatedly until he looks like Tra Telligman. Replace Barnett with Fedor.

    Problem solved.

  • FiveBoltMain says:

So bitch tits is the reason that is got postponed. Who didn’t see this coming? He’s as realiable as Ryan posting podcasts on time čśÇ

  • CAP says:

I thought I heard Tanya Harding is pregnant…somehow.

  • Omomatta says:

Wait a minute….which one of you fucking retards really thought that
    A) SF was really going to Japan?… and
    B) Barnett was going to get licensed in Cali this quickly?

  • Letibleu says:

I bet it was IAMPENISX that gpt her preggo. He is into really weird stuff. You have to not care about your dick to stick it in her, look what she looks like now. Makes me want to start a thread called “when athletes go wrong”.

  • CAP says:

She’s starting to look like Butterbean! And look at that scrawny chick she fought in the background. What an amazing 2 sport “athlete”.

  • Billytk says:

I don’t have the hate for Josh that some do over his previous tests but if the tournament is F’d because of him not being able to fight in the U.S. then I say drop him from the tourney and move on.

  • Oontyex says:

Why put fedor back in? they had the reserve fights as… you know.. reserves for exactly this kinda thing where a fighter isnt able to fight, so instead of butt fucking the whole thing they can replace them

whats the point of an elimination tournament if theyre just going to put the guys who get eliminated that they like back in?

If they put fedor in instead of Del rosario, riggs or valentign, it detracts from the legitimacy of what theyre presenting, id personally much rather see valentign vs rogers than a fedor rematch

  • agentsmith says:

@ Billytk:  Yeah, I’m no lawyerologist, but I’d say SF has more than enough cause to terminate his contract if they want.  His licensing issues are his problem, and there’s no way he could legally compel them to change venues to suit him.

But the key phrase there is “if they want”… SF is obviously banking that Barnett will sell enough tickets to make his bullshit baggage worthwhile.

  • Letibleu says:

  • Symbul says:

I’m both sad that SF, who I have high hopes for, appear to be having their biggest thing ever railroaded and I’m also experiencing some schadenfreude at their expense since.. yeah.. it’s fucking Josh Barnett and they should know better.

  • Reverend Clint says:

its that retard look alike coker… he is a shitty businessman

  • 7th Offensive says:

They should let an alternate take his place. I’m a fan of Josh, but.. fuck him if he can’t get his work done on time and ruins the whole shebang.

  • SprechenSieDouche says:

wow. Josh Barnett should be demanding the highest purses in the sport, because everyone gives him sole credit and responsibility for not only the success or failure of single events, but the demise of an entire fight org and now the failure of the whole SF HW Tourney.

Josh Barnett is truly the most powerful man in MMA.

  • Redping says:

yeah this is probably going to be just like every other mma thing (the pat barry hug, the paul kelly glove-touch) that americans menstruate over and look for blame, and then end up eating their words three days later when it turns to be a completely different story.

lets wait for facts people, barnett is not important enough for them to fuck it all up, fedor or overeem sure, but who cares about barnett. there’s something else going on for sure

  • 7th Offensive says:

yeah RedPing might have a point. haha

  • iamphoenix says:

redpeeing never has a point. just anal leaking.

  • frickshun says:

Yeah Redping…….IT’S ONLY AMERICANS that assume & jump to conclusions. No other nation’s people do THAT. Fucking dumbass.

  • Take It Easy says:

americans are literally the dumbest people on the face of the planet

  • agentsmith says:

Barnett is the only guy in the grand prix who has problems with athletic commissions that we know of.  But it’s just a coincidence that he was on the card for the event that was going to be held in Japan where there’s no athletic commissions.  Note that this would have been the first time Strikeforce even left America… but of course that has nothing to do with Barnett.  Now that event will intead be in the very state that Barnett’s banned from, and his fight is now getting pulled from the card entirely.  But again, that’s all just a coincidence.

I make a point of trying not to jump to conclusions, but come on son.

  • frickshun says:

Take It Ease, you silly fucking idiot–>Americans are not dumb, they’re lazy. If you’re gonna troll, at least be logical. YOU FUCKING CUNT.

For the record, I’m not patriotic. But I do hate stupidity.

  • glassjawsh says:

@ hookedonphoenix – maybe it’s the point that is causing redpings anal leakage, that or syphilis

  • Omomatta says:

“americans are literally the dumbest people on the face of the planet”

My thoughts exactly when I moved here from Ecuador. Silly fucking Americans. A pox on their houses!

  • fightfan says:

How do you guys add pictures/gifs to a comment??

  • subo says:

boss – the way the brackets are set up, Overeem can’t murder Barnett until the finals.  Then again, this IS Scott Coker, so who the fuck knows what will actually happen.

  • agentsmith says:

If and when this tourney does actually work out, that would be my pick for who makes it to the finals though.

  • G Funk says:

Omo, you’re barred from mentioning Ecuador or anything spanish for that matter without using google translate!

  • fightfan says:

How do you insert images like comments #1 and #6???

  • G Funk says:

^When will you realize that you have been shunned from the FL community.

  • Omomatta says:

Los estadounidenses son grandes imb├ęciles, tontos. No me gusta el hecho de que no se negociar├ín burros para las esposas.

    @fightfan……Incl├şnate hacia delante y yo te mostrar├ę.

    ¡Viva Ecuador!

A funny thing happened on the way to the next radio show.

  • Mixed Martial Adam says:

    On an unrelated note:

Does anyone know where Ryan is? It’s been 4 days without an update and now that he’s living alone in the basement he may have died dasy ago and no one’s around to check on him.

Normally i wouldn’t find the lack of activity strange, it’s just that it’s fight week and quite a lot of interesting MMA tidbits have been going on without comment.

Not bitching, just wondering what’s up?

  • agentsmith says:

    We all are.

  • frickshun says:

    Remember when Ryan WASN’T dead?

    Those were the days…….

  • Omomatta says:

And to think……his last contribution to the site involved a blurb about Fitch’s Fight Puberty.

I guess since Agentschmidt was the last to post…..he inherits the site? A little advice……it is possible to polish a turd. I saw it on Mythbusters. Go for it Schmitty!

  • G Funk says:

HAHAHAHAHAH!!!! Fuckin Omo with GoogleTranslate FTW!!!

  • Omomatta says:

    ┬┐Qu├ę es Google translate?
